Detailed walkthrough for Part 18 of Super Mario 3D Land, including Star Coin locations, enemy strategies, and tips for navigating tricky sections.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Shoot yourself onto the yellow platform moving up and down on the right wall. Wait for it to descend, aim high to compensate for gravity, and fire. If you miss, try again until you land on it. Grab the Star Coin and jump back down.
  2. 2
From the cannon platform, go to the side without water. Hit the ? Block for a coin and proceed down. Watch out for two Sandmaarghs. Continue along the edge to find two more ? Blocks, one with coins.
  3. 3
Return to the cannon platform and go around the main building the other way. Enter the shallow pool and collect the circling coins. Hit the P-Switch to trigger a trail of rainbow notes. Follow it, collecting notes. You may need to wait for Pokeys to move. Collect the Tanooki Leaf (or 1-Up if already Tanooki Mario) that appears.
  4. 4
Star Coin Alert! #2: From your current position, see the brick block at the base of the main structure's wall. Tail spin or roll into it to break it. Crouch and crawl into the gap to find the Star Coin. Grab it and crawl back out.
  5. 5
Go right towards the edge of the map and grab the Green Clock. Move down to find a ? Block. Hit it and hop into the Propeller Box. Use it to grab coins on either side of the ? Block. Hit other ? Blocks in the area for more coins. Stomp Sandmaarghs for coins if they appear.
  6. 6
Return to the cannon platform. Use the Note Blocks to jump onto the platform and into the cannon. Aim for the fake 1-Up in a small room on a lower level of the main structure. Aim slightly above the room to compensate for gravity. Alternatively, wall jump and hover inside if you are Tanooki Mario.
  7. 7
In the room, hit the ? Blocks for coins. Jump under the gap between ? Blocks for an invisible ? Block containing a 1-Up. Use the Propeller Box to reach the level above. Hop up the Note Block. If you don't have the Propeller Box or want a yellow ring (for coins), jump down and back up to the cannon platform, then aim for the yellow ring (up and right) to reach the level above.
  8. 8
To get past the Thwomp, move beside it, let it slam, then run underneath as it rises. To pass a Wallop, move up to it and jump; as it jumps, quickly move around its side. The Blokkablok is a flying snake. Hit its brick and ? Blocks from underneath to defeat it. Avoid its spikes. Go through the door on the wall.
  9. 9
Inside, avoid the pit with Pokies. Pass the two Thwomps by letting them slam and running underneath them in the gaps. Use their shadows to find the gaps. Defeat the Blokkablok by tail spinning or rolling into its blocks. Hit the Warp Box to go up two floors.
  10. 10
Run through the Checkpoint Flag. Jump down to the floor between your current and previous floor on the far left. Enter the door. Outside, defeat the fake Goomba and Fake Block if desired. Hit the three ? Blocks; the far right one has a Tanooki Leaf. Re-enter the door.
  11. 11
Jump down to the lower floor. Pass the Thwomps and Blokkablok. Hit the Warp Box again to warp up. Enter the door on your current floor. Move left outside. Jump through the red ring and run up the moving steps, collecting the five red coins to spawn a 1-Up. Continue to the top of the steps and enter the door.
  12. 12
Inside, navigate past lines of Wallops.
Tips
  • Aiming high when firing from the cannon compensates for gravity.
  • Tail spinning or rolling into blocks can break them and defeat enemies like the Blokkablok.
  • Use shadows of Thwomps to identify safe gaps.
  • Invisible ? Blocks can contain valuable items like 1-Ups.
  • If you have Tanooki Mario, wall jumping and hovering can provide alternative routes.
