    On September 28, 1998, after narrowly avoiding monsters, you'll encounter fellow S.T.A.R.S. member Brad Vickers. He'll mention something is hunting S.T.A.R.S. before running off. Head to the Raccoon Police Department (RPD).

    Inside the RPD, you'll face the terrifying Nemesis for the first time. It will murder and infect Brad Vickers with the T-Virus. You need to escape Nemesis and flee into the RPD.

    After finding lock picks within the RPD, you'll need to evade Nemesis again and make your way uptown.

    Uptown, you'll meet Carlos Oliveira and Nicholai Ginovaef, Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (UBCS) operatives sent to rescue civilians. You'll team up with them to find parts to power up a trolley to escape the city. Nicholai seems annoyed by your S.T.A.R.S. affiliation.

    After gathering the necessary trolley parts, Nicholai will be apparently killed by a zombie mob. Nemesis will then appear and attack you. Mikhail, another UBCS operative, will sacrifice himself on the moving trolley to ensure your escape.

    Carlos and you will reach the Clock Tower and ring a bell to signal for a rescue chopper. However, Nemesis, having survived Mikhail's sacrifice, will destroy the chopper and, unfortunately, infect you with the T-Virus!

    Carlos will step in, fighting Nemesis and managing to seriously injure it, giving you a chance to attack. After you've thrown everything you have at it, Nemesis will retreat. You'll then faint from the T-Virus infection.

    Carlos will find you unconscious and take you to the Clock Tower to rest and recover.
