Hey there! So, you want your favorite Pokémon to tag along with you outside of battle, huh? It's a pretty cool feature in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and it's not too tricky to set up. You'll need to head to a specific spot to get started.
Where is Amity Square?
Amity Square is your go-to place for this! You'll find it in Hearthome City, kind of in the northern part of the city, right near Mt. Coronet. It's a cute little park area where your Pokémon can hang out with you.
How to Get Pokémon to Follow You:
Once you're inside Amity Square, you can actually have up to 6 Pokémon following you around. Pretty neat, right? However, there's a catch: not every Pokémon is allowed in the square. The game has a specific list of Pokémon that can join you there. You'll need to check that list to see if your current favorite makes the cut!
Having Your Lead Pokémon Follow You Outside the Square:
The really awesome part is that after you've had a Pokémon follow you inside Amity Square, you can then have your lead Pokémon follow you *everywhere*, even outside the park! So, once you've met the requirements and had a Pokémon join you in Amity Square, you can then choose your absolute favorite to be your constant companion on your Sinnoh adventure. Just make sure that Pokémon is the first one in your party!

How to Obtain the Pokétch:
You will receive the Pokétch in Jubilife City after completing a small task. First, visit the Trainer's School to deliver a parcel to your rival. Afterward, attempt to head north, and you'll be prompted to play a game. Find and speak to three Clowns located around the city: one to the east, one in front of the Jubilife TV Station, and one to the west. Once you've spoken to all three, return to the person who initiated the game to receive your Pokétch. Additional apps can be acquired by speaking to various NPCs throughout Sinnoh.
How to Open/Close the Pokétch:
Press the R button to open the Pokétch. Pressing R again allows you to zoom in or out. While zoomed in, use the Circle Pad to move the cursor. To switch apps, move the cursor to the red button on the right side of the screen and press A.
To close the Pokétch, hold the R button.
Available Apps:
- Digital Watch: The default app, displaying the current real-world time.
- Memo Pad: Allows you to write notes or doodle, featuring a pencil and an eraser.
- Dowsing Machine: A radar that indicates the proximity of hidden items. A vibrating circle suggests an item is nearby, and a dot on the screen pinpoints its relative location. Press A when facing the dot to collect the item.
- Friendship Checker: Lets you check the friendship levels of your Pokémon party members, useful for evolutions that require high friendship.
- Hidden Moves: This app lists all acquired Hidden Moves (replacing HMs). You can use it to borrow the assistance of wild Pokémon to use these moves.
