Your First Steps in Hisui
Your first steps in Hisui are here! Learn how to catch Pokemon, meet Professor Laventon, and get started in Jubilife Village in this Pokemon Legends: Arceus guide.
Hey there! Welcome to Hisui, and to Pokemon Legends: Arceus! If this is your first time diving into a Pokemon game, you're in for a treat. This game shakes things up in all the best ways.
Right off the bat, Arceus himself will have you pick your character's appearance and name. Then, he'll explain that you've been pulled from your own time and space into this ancient land of Hisui, which you might know as Sinnoh from other games.
You'll wake up on Prelude Beach and meet Professor Laventon, the local Pokemon Professor. He's got three Pokemon with him, but they'll make a run for it! He'll ask for your help to find them, and along the way, you'll get your hands on an Arc Phone, a special version of your phone given to you by Arceus.
Catching up with the Professor, he'll introduce you to your potential starter Pokemon: Rowlet (Grass/Flying), Cyndaquil (Fire), and Oshawott (Water). He'll then give you 50 Poke Balls and explain the basics of catching Pokemon. You might notice the item description mentions you can craft these yourself later if you gather materials!
Your first task is to catch all three of these Pokemon for the Professor. To do this, press the [B] button to crouch and sneak up on them. Once you're close enough, press and hold [ZR] (the right trigger) to aim your Poke Ball. You can cancel the throw by pressing [B]. Aim the reticle directly at the Pokemon and toss the ball. If you're close enough, you won't have to worry about the ball's arc!
After you've caught all three, Professor Laventon will tell you about his dream: to complete the very first Pokedex for the Hisui region. You'll agree to help him, and he'll escort you to Jubilife Village.
Once you arrive, you'll learn that Jubilife Village is pretty new, only built two years ago. Professor Laventon will ask you to wait at a building called the Wallflower while he checks in. Your Arc Phone will beep, showing you a map of the village – you can bring it up anytime with the [-] button.
Follow your Quest Marker to the Wallflower. You'll meet Beni, who initially won't let you in because it's only for Galaxy Team members. But don't worry, you'll soon meet Akari/Rei and Captain Cyllene, both from the Galaxy Team Survey Corps. Professor Laventon will casually mention you fell from a space-time rift, which is pretty wild! To join the Survey Corps, you'll need to pass a trial, which leads us to the next part of your journey.
