Your guide to Route 4 in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2! Learn trainer locations, wild Pokémon, and where to find key items like Protein and Dig.

Alright, welcome to Route 4 in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2! This route is a bit of a maze with sandy areas and trainers, but don't worry, I'll guide you through it. We'll be battling some trainers, grabbing some useful items, and making our way towards the next Gym. Let's get started!

First off, you'll notice there are wild Pokémon in the 'Deep Sand' areas. Keep an eye out for Sandile, Darumaka, Trubbish, and a rare Scraggy. Later, once you have Surf (after Gym 5), you'll find Frillish, Alomomola, and Jellicent in the water. And if you're really into post-game stuff, the Super Rod can get you Finneon, Clamperl, Qwilfish, Lumineon, Huntail, and Relicanth.

Trainers to Battle

As you enter Route 4, you'll see a Hiker on the left who isn't interested in fighting. However, a Pokémon Breeder nearby is ready for a challenge.

Trainer Battle: Pokémon Breeder

  • Drilbur (Level 16, Ground)
  • Marill (Level 16, Water)

Breeders are great for training, but if you're in a hurry, you can try to sneak past them. After this battle, you have a choice: head left into the sandy area or continue north. We're going to take the sandy path to the left first, as it's like tall grass, so watch out for more wild Pokémon!

Near the entrance to this sandy area, there's a Policeman who wants to battle.

Trainer Battle: Policeman

  • Growlithe (Level 16, Fire)
  • Herdier (Level 16, Normal)

After dealing with him, head northwest to find some stairs leading down to the water. Down there, you'll find a couple of Fishermen and a Mystic Water item just past them.

Trainer Battle: Fisherman (North)

  • Basculin (Level 17, Water)

Trainer Battle: Fisherman (South)

  • Psyduck (Level 16, Water)
  • Basculin (Level 16, Water)

Once you're done by the water, head back up to the main road and continue north. Get ready, because you're about to run into Colress!

Encounter with Colress

Colress, the guy who stopped you in Castelia City, is here. He'll mention some Crustle blocking the path and then use a machine to make them flee. After that, he'll challenge you to a battle.

Trainer Battle: Pokémon Trainer Colress

  • Magnemite (Level 21, Electric/Steel)
  • Klink (Level 23, Steel)

After the battle, Colress gives you a Protein before leaving. Keep heading north. You can check out the first building on the right, but it's not super important. The second building on the right is more interesting – head to the second floor to find a Wide Lens next to a TV. The woman downstairs is looking for a specific Pokémon trait.

Leave the second building and continue north. Now, enter the building on the left side of the road. On the second floor, a man will give you a Sitrus Berry. After that, keep going north to the T-junction. The building on the right side of the road here has a fun challenge: a woman on the bottom floor will mimic a Pokémon's cry. Guess the Pokémon correctly, and you'll get a Poke Toy!

Exploring West

There's a Trainer Tip sign on the northwest corner of the T-junction. After reading it, you can either head north to Join Avenue and Nimbasa City, or go west to explore more of Route 4. We're going to explore west!

As you head west, you'll encounter a patrolling Policeman. If you step into his line of sight, he'll challenge you.

Trainer Battle: Policeman

  • Riolu (Level 21, Fighting)
  • Growlithe (Level 21, Fire)

After that fight, keep going west. When the road turns north, look for a small shack to the west. Inside, you can find a woman who will heal your Pokémon anytime you need it. Pretty convenient!

Head back east and then go down the stairs to the south. You're now in another sandy area. Go south, then take the stairs leading west. Follow the narrow path north between the building and the ridge. At the very end, you can find a Red Shard. Make sure you're right next to the last tile and press 'A'!

Go back down the stairs and head east, then south. Another Policeman is waiting for a battle here.

Trainer Battle: Policeman

  • Herdier (Level 22, Normal)

Continue south past him, then head southeast to another set of stairs. Go up them and follow the path north. At the end, you'll find TM28 - Dig! Awesome! Head back to the stairs, then go west to the next set of stairs. You're almost done exploring this part of Route 4!
