Catching Pokemon

Learn the best strategies for catching Pokémon in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Discover how to weaken Pokémon, inflict status conditions, and use different Poke Balls effectively.

Assembling your dream team is a huge part of the fun in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2! You'll start with a starter Pokémon, but the rest of your crew is up to you. This is where catching Pokémon with Poke Balls becomes super important.

Catching a Pokémon is pretty straightforward: throw a Poke Ball and hope for the best! But to really boost your chances, you'll want to weaken the wild Pokémon first with your own moves. Just be careful not to knock it out completely – if its HP hits zero, it faints and you won't be able to catch it (though you'll still get experience). Keep an eye on its HP bar and use weaker attacks until it's really low.

Inflicting status conditions like Sleep or Paralysis also gives you a better shot at catching the Pokémon. Later in the game, you'll get access to better Poke Balls like the Great Ball and Ultra Ball, which are essential for catching tougher Pokémon.

Remember, you can only catch wild Pokémon. Don't waste your Poke Balls on other trainers' Pokémon!

Once you've caught a new Pokémon, you can use it in battle right away. If it's a new addition to your team, you might need to heal it up and train it a bit before it's ready for serious battles. Keep in mind you can only have up to 6 Pokémon in your active party at any time.

Any Pokémon you catch beyond your party limit will be sent to your Pokémon box. You can access these boxes from any PC in a Pokémon Center. The PC is also where you can swap Pokémon between your party and your boxes, which is super handy for managing your team!
