First up, you'll encounter a Worker with a Level 17 Drilbur. Take him down.

After that, head north past the Worker, then go down the stairs to your west, and immediately back up the next set of stairs. You'll find a Doctor here. Talk to him for a battle – he's got a Level 17 Sewaddle.

Good news: after you beat this Doctor, he'll heal your Pokémon anytime you talk to him! Though, since Hugh's Pokémon heal automatically between battles, it's not super crucial here.

Move to the right, past the door. You'll see a TwistedSpoon on the ground – grab it! Keep it for now.

Just ahead, you'll spot another item. Pick it up – it's Leftovers! Score!

Now, enter the door you just passed. Inside, a Scientist will give you a random healing item. You can come back once a day for another one.

Once you've got your item, leave the room and backtrack past the Worker. Head down the stairs near him.

Continue north, then east, until you reach some stairs. Go up them and battle the nearby Scientist, who has a Level 17 Grimer.

There's nothing in the room next to her, so head back down the stairs. Go west, south, east, and then north until you reach the stairs you first came down.

Continue south along the path until you meet the Janitor. He's got a Level 16 Lillipup and a Level 16 Trubbish.

After defeating the Janitor, head past him and down the steps at the end. Follow the path west until you reach the very end.

Go up the stairs here and battle the next Worker, who has a Level 17 Timburr.

After the battle, snag the Pearl in the alcove to the Worker's east.

Now, you need to backtrack all the way back past the Janitor to where you had to choose between two sets of stairs near the beginning. This time, take the northern set of stairs.

Head west until you find the TwistedSpoon you saw earlier. Pick it up if you haven't already.

Next, move north towards the two Team Plasma Grunts. After a chat, you'll be thrown into a Double Battle with Hugh!

Take down the two Grunts, who have a Level 16 Scraggy and a Level 16 Sandile.

After the battle, Burgh, the Gym Leader, will show up! Chat with him, and then Hugh will give you HM04, which teaches Strength. Hugh will then depart.

Shortly after, a mysterious man appears from the north door – this is your first encounter with Colress! He'll leave quickly.

Finally, Burgh will let you know he's back at his Gym and then he'll leave too.

If you want to explore the Relic Passage, which is a separate area connected through the north door, you can do so now. It has a few trainers and some nice wild Pokémon. Otherwise, just exit the sewers the way you came in.

Tips

Don't forget to grab the Leftovers! They're a fantastic item for healing your Pokémon each turn.
The TwistedSpoon is useful if you plan on using Psychic-type moves often.
The Pearl can be sold for some extra cash if you need it.
