Learn how to navigate and customize Keeper's options menu, from saving your game to tweaking visual and sound settings for the best experience.

Hey there! So, you're looking to get a handle on the game's menus, huh? No worries, it's pretty straightforward. When you need to pause the action or change some settings, just hit the 'Q' key in the top left corner of your screen, or press 'Esc'. This'll pop up a small menu with a few handy options.

From left to right, you'll see:

  • Load game
  • Save game
  • Set visual options
  • Set sound options
  • Set computer assistance
  • Quit game

Load and Save Game

These two are pretty self-explanatory. You can save your progress across 8 different save files, so you can jump back in right where you left off whenever you need to. Just pick a slot, and your game will be stored safe and sound.

Set Visual Options

This is where you can really fine-tune how the game looks and runs. Most machines built after 1997 should handle the game with no problem, even on the best settings. You've got a few tweaks here:

  • Shadows: Decide how many shadows can appear on a single object, from 0 up to 4.
  • View distance: This controls how much of your dungeon map you can see at once.
  • Field of view: You can choose to rotate the camera in smooth increments or in 90-degree steps.
  • Wall height: Adjust this to make your creatures stand out better against the dungeon walls.
  • Gamma correction: Tweak the brightness of your dungeon view, going from dark and moody to nice and bright.

Set Sound Options

Here's where you can balance your audio. You can adjust the volume for the Background Music (BGM) and the Special Effects (SFX), which includes sounds and voice-overs, completely independently. Get that perfect mix going!

Set Computer Assistance

Honestly, I usually skip this one because it can sometimes be more of a hassle than a help, but if you're curious, there are four types of AI assistance you can try out. They're color-coded from left to right:

  • Red (Aggressive): This AI will actively build rooms, use spells and traps, and try to attack enemies.
  • Yellow (Defensive): This one also builds rooms and uses spells/traps but won't initiate attacks.
  • Green (Construction): This AI is solely focused on building rooms.
  • Blue (Movement): This AI will only slap creatures around and move them.

To see this in action, click on the little 'c' icon near the map radar. It's interesting to see what they do, even if I don't rely on it myself.

Quit Game

When you're done playing for the moment, just select the trashcan icon. This will exit the game and take you back to the main options screen, ready for your next dungeon-delving session.
