Alright, let's talk about being a Keeper in Quidditch. This is a super important role, basically the last line of defense for your team. Your main job is to stop the other team's Chasers from scoring by blocking all three of your hoops. Think of yourself as the goalie in other sports – you've got a big responsibility! What's the Goal? Your primary focus is to stay near your hoops and use your skills to block any shots. Back in the day, Keepers had a bit more freedom, but since 1620, the rules generally keep you within the scoring area. You can only really leave that zone to intercept an incoming Chaser. Gear Up! As a Keeper, you'll be wearing the most protective gear out of anyone on the team. This includes a helmet, chest and shoulder pads, and knee pads. It's a bit heavier, but totally worth it for the protection. A Little History & Some Famous Keepers The Keeper position has been around for ages, dating back to at least the 13th century. Over time, the role has evolved, but guarding the hoops has always been key. We've seen some legendary Keepers. Remember Oliver Wood? He was the Gryffindor Keeper before Ron Weasley. Oliver had a rough start, even getting hit by a Bludger and waking up a week later in the Hospital Wing! He was also the team captain. Later, Ron took over as Gryffindor's Keeper. He had some tough try-outs, especially against Cormac McLaggen in 1996. Thankfully, Hermione stepped in with a Confundus Charm on McLaggen when he started being a jerk to Ron and Ginny. Important Note: Keepers are generally safe from Beaters, unless the Quaffle is in the scoring area. So, you're usually pretty protected while doing your job.
