They are designed to encourage players to engage with specific gameplay mechanics, enemy types, or mission objectives. Completing these orders provides a direct reward, usually in the form of Requisition Slips or Medals, which are essential for progression. They are a great way to earn resources while playing the game as you normally would.

Types of Personal Orders:

• Kill-Based Orders: These might require you to eliminate a certain number of a specific enemy type (e.g., "Kill 50 Terminid Warriors," "Destroy 10 Automaton Hulks").
• Mission-Based Orders: These focus on completing specific mission types or objectives (e.g., "Complete 3 Retrieve Data missions," "Successfully extract from 2 Evacuate High-Value Assets missions").

If that mission also happens to be an Extraction type, you're effectively working towards both objectives simultaneously. After completing that mission, you can then select another Extraction mission on a different planet, perhaps one with more Terminids, to fulfill the second part of your Daily Challenge and potentially work on another Personal Order.
