Guide to defeating the Ring Wyrm hunt in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Learn its weaknesses, resistances, and the best strategy to claim your reward.
Walkthrough
- 1Speak to Balzac in Rabanastre's Lowtown, specifically along the southwestern edge of the North Sprawl, to accept the hunt.
- 2Travel to the Westersand via Rabanastre's Westgate.
- 3Ensure a sandstorm is active. If not, travel north through Galtea Downs, then east through the Corridor of Sand to reach the Wyrm's Nest area, which will trigger a sandstorm.
- 4Once a sandstorm is active, proceed to the Windtrace Dunes zone.
- 5Locate the Ring Wyrm in the southeastern end of the Windtrace Dunes. Note that the sandstorm may appear to subside in The Midfault zone, but should persist in Windtrace Dunes if initiated in Corridor of Sand or Galtea Downs.
- 6Defeat the Ring Wyrm.
- 7Return to Balzac in Rabanastre to claim your reward.
Tips
- The Ring Wyrm has 128,648 HP and is weak to Fire.
- It resists Water (absorbs), Dark, Earth, Holy, Ice, and Lightning (halves).
- It is immune to Disable, Disease, Doom, Lure, Oil, Petrify, Poison, Reverse, Sap, Silence, Sleep, and Stop.
- The Ring Wyrm uses Blizzara, Fira, Thundara, and Immobilizega, which can inflict Immobilize on the entire party.
- Its physical attacks can inflict Confuse, and its Breath attack deals Fire damage and can inflict Sap.
- Use the Fire spell (Fira) as it deals significant damage.
- A White Mage with a Cura Gambit (e.g., "Ally: HP Cura") is recommended for healing, especially if characters have around 2,000 HP.
- Casting Dispel at the start of the battle can remove the Ring Wyrm's buffs, particularly Shell.
- Casting Blind on the Ring Wyrm can limit its physical offense.
- The Gambit "Ally: any –> Esuna" for your White Mage can help counter status effects like Immobilize, Confuse, and Sap.
- Belias, the Esper, is a good choice as he absorbs Fire and takes half damage from Ice and Lightning.
- Quickenings can be used to quickly reduce the Ring Wyrm's HP.
- The Ring Wyrm may cast Restore once during the battle, healing itself.
