Hunting with Penelo

Guide to hunting Thextera in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Learn about the hunt, its location in the Westersand, and strategies for defeating it with Penelo.

Bargains at the Bazaar II

1. Return to Old Dalan after completing business in the Giza Plains.
2. Visit a merchant (e.g., Arjie at Nomad Village) and sell loot harvested from the Giza Plains. Focus on selling Drab Wool, Fire Stone, Large Feather, Molting, Snake Skin, Tanned Hide, and Water Stone.
3. Selling these components unlocks new bazaar bundles. The following are specifically mentioned:
   • Selling 2x Drab Wool unlocks the Antidote Set (3x Antidote) for 100 gil.
   • Selling 3x Fire Stone and 3x Molting unlocks the Gilt Shield (Buckler) for 250 gil.
   • Selling 3x Large Feather unlocks the First-Aid Kit (2x Phoenix Down, 2x Potion) for 450 gil.
4. It's recommended to sell only enough to unlock items, buy them, and then sell more to replenish the bazaar inventory if needed.

Wolf in the Waste Hunt

1. Return to Santea in Rabanastre’s East End district and talk to Tomaj to complete the Rogue Tomato hunt.
2. Receive a reward and a comment about the Clan Hall.
3. Check the Notice Board in Santea to find the “Wolf in the Waste” hunt, which tasks you with hunting Thextera.
4. Find the petitioner, Gatsly, near the Notice Board. Accept his request to start the hunt.
5. Thextera is located in the Galtea Downs area of the Westersand.
6. Travel to Rabanastre’s Southern Plaza, head west to the West Gate, and then proceed west into the Westersand.
7. Be aware of potential sandstorms in the Westersand, which reduce visibility and can affect enemy spawns and elemental damage (earth, fire, wind increased by 20%; water reduced by 50%). If the weather is unfavorable, leave and re-enter the zone to change it.
8. Thextera is located in the southeastern corner of the Westersand map. Follow the wall west, then south from the Rabanastre transition area.
9. Kill any lesser Wolves encountered along the way, as they are stronger than those in the Estersand (approx. 16~ damage, more HP).
10. Thextera has approximately 380 HP and is larger and more distinct than the lesser Wolves.
11. Focus on defeating the attendant Wolves before attacking Thextera.
12. Thextera can use “Cry for Help” to summon more Wolves, but reinforcements can be dealt with quickly.
13. Thextera’s normal attacks deal around 25~ damage and can inflict poison. Keep Antidotes handy to cure poison and maintain HP above 100.
14. The reward for completing the hunt (Red & Rotten in the Desert) is 300 gil, 2x Potion, and 1x Teleport Stone.
