Guide to defeating Killbug, Melt, Biding Mantis, and Ancbolder in final fantasy xii. Learn spawn conditions, weaknesses, and rewards like the Metallic Trophy.

Killbug

The Killbug is found in the Ozmone Plain, specifically in the Switchback area along the northern edge, between the Field of Fallen Wings and Dagan Flats, northeast of the ramp to the Zertinan Caverns. It appears as a large, out-of-place chest. It spawns only when the minute digits of the game clock are between 10 and 39 minutes.

The Killbug is a mid-40s level enemy with just under 30,000 HP. Its Attack Power is not very high, and it uses only the Leech and Lunge technicks. It is weak to Wind and absorbs Earth. It is susceptible to Silence and Oil status effects. Using Fire-boosting weapons like the Burning Bow and Flame Staff with Firaga and Fira magicks is effective.

Dismantling it yields a Metallic Trophy.

Melt

Melt is a slime-type monster found in the Henne Mines, specifically in the Pithead Junction B area. To reach it, rent a Chocobo from Jahara, ride through the brush at the eastern end of Haulo Green to reach the southern end of The Shred, then enter the Henne Mines. Playing the lever in Pithead Junction B has a 50% chance to spawn Melt along with Jelly foes.

Melt is in the high 40s level range with over 60,000 HP and respectable Attack Power. Its dangerous technicks include Phantasmal Gaze and Mythril Bubbles, both of which inflict Confuse. Wearing Bowline Sashes can prevent Confuse. It also uses Bleed, Slap, Silence, and Thundaga, and can inflict Sleep with physical attacks. It is immune to all status effects except Blind and Oil. Exploiting its Oil weakness with the Burning Bow and Flame Staff using Fira and Firaga is effective. It is also weak to Ice, making Blizzara and Blizzaga good choices. It absorbs Lightning.

Defeating Melt earns you a Slimy Trophy.

Biding Mantis

The Biding Mantis is found in the Golmore Jungle, in The Needlebreak zone, on the southern edge walkway connecting to The Rustling Chapel and Paths of Chained Light. It spawns when the minute digits on the game clock are between 30 and 59 minutes. It may move after spawning but is usually found on the southern part of the map.

The Biding Mantis has nearly 70,000 HP and Attack Power comparable to Victanir. Its attacks include Cannibalize and Gnaw, with a high combo rate. It deals more damage at full health and gains a defense boost at low health. Its attacks are instantaneous. It is immune to all status effects except Reverse and Oil. Pairing Oil with Fire-boosting weapons and magicks like Firaga and Fira is effective. It absorbs Dark and is vulnerable to Holy.

You can steal a Tattered Garment from it, which can be sold to unlock the “Gilt Phylactery” (Golden Amulet) at the Bazaar.

Defeating Biding Mantis rewards you with a Scythe Trophy.

Ancbolder

Ancbolder is found in the Paramina Rift’s Karydine Glacier area. It can be lured out by defeating all monsters in the area, including undead that may be unseen and neutral Wild Onions. Ancbolder will appear in the middle of the level once all foes are defeated.

Ancbolder is at best level 30 with around 14,000 HP, making it the weakest Trophy Rare Game encountered so far. Its Attack Power is significantly lower than previous Trophy Rare Game. It uses Lunge, Rage, and Tremor technicks, as well as Protect magick. It is vulnerable to Sleep, Disable, and Immobilize status effects.
