Learn how to defeat the Flowering Cactoid Hunt in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Includes strategy, weaknesses, and rewards.
Walkthrough
- 1Before accepting the hunt, clear out the Yardang Labyrinth of Wolves and Cockatrices, but leave neutral Cactoids and Cactites.
- 2Return to the Yardang Labyrinth and clear out respawned monsters.
- 3Head to the Estersand Outpost and speak with Dantro, who is sitting on a crate talking to a Seeq. He will inform you about the Mark.
- 4If you haven't visited the Outpost before, search the eastern-most part of the map, past a palm tree, to find an urn containing the Firefly accessory.
- 5Return to the Yardang Labyrinth and proceed northeast. Take the second southeast turn to find the Flowering Cactoid, located south of the Sand-Swept Naze area transition.
- 6Equip Balthier with an Altair gun, as it ignores evasion. Be prepared for the Cactoid to inflict Blind with its regular attacks; use Blindna and/or Eye Drops to counter.
- 7When the Flowering Cactoid's HP drops below 20%, it will begin using 1,000 Needles, which can instantly kill a character. Keep a Phoenix Down handy to revive fallen party members.
- 8Defeat the Flowering Cactoid.
- 9Return to Dantro to claim your reward: 500 Gil, Potion x10, and Cactus Flower.
- 10After receiving your reward, speak to Dantro again. He will ask you to deliver the Cactus Flower to his wife in a village to the north.
Tips
- Clearing the Yardang Labyrinth beforehand makes chasing the Flowering Cactoid easier when it flees.
- If you don't pressure the Cactoid, it can use Potions to heal itself.
- The Flowering Cactoid has high evasion, making weapons that ignore evasion, like Balthier's Altair gun, effective.
- Be prepared for the 1,000 Needles attack when the Cactoid is low on health.
