A detailed walkthrough for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age's Westersand area, covering enemies, loot, and strategies for Chapter 3: Legacy of the Dynast King.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Galtea Downs: This area outside Rabanastre has weak enemies (Wolves, Cactites). While most chests contain basic items, a chest in the northwestern corner may contain a Cotton Cap. You need to kill twenty Wolves in the Westersand for Rare Game later on. Proceed north to the Corridor of Sand.
  2. 2
Corridor of Sand: This looped area contains Cockatrices, Urstrixes, Wolves, and Dive Talons. Loot includes potential Onion Arrows near the eastern entrance (follow southern boundary cliffs north, then west, then south), a potential Broadsword southwest of a rock pillar in the eastern lowlands, and a Steel Gorget near the dead-end tail of the area (follow cliffs south, then west).
  3. 3
Dustia Hunt: To spawn Dustia, a character must have under 10% HP. Sitting a character in front of an angry Cockatrice can trigger its appearance. Dustia has 7,000 HP, uses Dark magick, and is weak to Holy (absorbs Dark). It can be killed with a Phoenix Down. Drops include Book of Orgain or Flame Staff. Steal a Book of Orgain-Mille and Poach for Pebble or Capricorn Gem. Avoid the northeastern area due to strong sandstorms. Head southwest to The Midfault.
  4. 4
The Midfault: Common enemies include Sleipnir, Urstrixes, and Wolves. You may also encounter a Dive Talon or a Gnoma Entite (only in sandstorms). There are only two loot items along the eastern boundary cliffs.
Tips
  • Avoid provoking Gnoma Entites, as they are very powerful and use strong magick. They only spawn in sandstorms in The Midfault and Shimmering Horizons. Using magick near them will make them hostile.
  • Dive Talons are flying enemies requiring ranged weapons (Bows, Crossbows, Guns), magick, or weapons with reach (Spears, Poles) to defeat effectively.
  • Dustia is an undead enemy that can be instantly killed with a Phoenix Down, though this is not recommended if you wish to level up.
  • The Westersand has higher-level versions of enemies found in Estersand and Giza Plains. Wolves have a stronger attack called Fangs, and Urstrixes have Gust.
  • Potential loot includes: Cotton Cap, Onion Arrows, Broadsword, Steel Gorget, Book of Orgain, Flame Staff, Book of Orgain-Mille, Pebble, Capricorn Gem.
  • Killing twenty Wolves is required for Rare Game later.
