Learn how to navigate the mutant base in Fallout Tactics, including mine placements and how to defeat heavily armed super mutants.
Walkthrough
- 1Disembark from the vehicle and proceed on foot towards Barnaby's position.
- 2Watch for two mutants hiding in trenches who are waiting to ambush you.
- 3Locate and speak to Burke in a trench. He is trapped and needs your help.
- 4Disarm Burke to receive 950 XP. He will then kill himself, allowing you to take the C4 he carries.
- 5Attempt to infiltrate the mutant base to find the general. A frontal assault is not recommended due to heavy defenses.
- 6The front bridge is the only entry point. Engage enemies at extreme long range to pick them off before they can hit you.
- 7If enemies pursue you down the corridor, they may step on mines and kill themselves.
- 8To the most East corner of the mutant base, behind sandbags and by a moat, is a locked chest. Watch for mines when approaching it.
- 9The locked chest contains a new assault rifle, though it is not particularly powerful.
- 10Super mutants guarding the gate are armed with Browning M2s and have over 150 HP each. Killing them yields significant XP, though it is not intended at this stage.
- 11If mutants are hiding in the bunker, use grenades to flush them out, as proximity damage is effective.
- 12An alternative entry to the mutant base in St. Louis exists: cross the bridge, turn right, run past the Enfield chest and a few mutants, and enter through a gully or canyon.
- 13Snipe mutants on the right side of the base, then have Jo and Stitch enter through the back door to attack mutants from behind. This is easier than a frontal assault but still challenging.
- 14After the St. Louis mission, the trader in BOS Beta will arrive in Gamma and trade rps for med supplies.
- 15Proceed to point 3 by heading NW from point 1 via the northernmost bridge to avoid a minefield.
- 16Pass two bunkers inhabited by super-mutants, being cautious of mines.
- 17Beware of a mutant with a rocket on the left and one with grenades on the right. Bait the grenadier to advance closer while firing, then move up to finish him with small arms fire when he is near rocks, causing the rocket guy to hit the rocks if you move up just enough to barely see him.
- 18Blast barricades with bullets and continue up the path, checking the bridge for mines.
- 19In a small bunker up the path, two rocket guys are present. Sniping is an option, but their rockets have good range, though they are not very accurate. Sneaking up and using grenades is also effective.
- 20The path terminates in a rockslide after the rocket guys; continue SW.
- 21Loot fallen enemies but beware of ambush mutants.
- 22At the end of the SW passage are trenches. Proceed NW along the trenches, where mutants may or may not be hostile.
- 23At the end of the NW passage is a bunker with another rocket guy and a chest. Snipe him if possible, or flush him out with grenades if he takes cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
- 24The chest contains doctor supplies, and the mutant carries a key.
- 25Head NE from the bunker, looting fallen enemies.
- 26Proceed to Talon squad, waiting in a pit just NE of the bunker. Use your medic to heal them with first aid kits before using better medical supplies.
- 27Once healed, Talon squad will enter the APC, and you must drive them back to the start of the level.
- 28In Bunker 8, Metal Armour Mark II and shotgun slugs are abundant. Two more sniper rifles may be available. If you looted the mutant base, you should have a fortune in M2s and SAWS heavy machine guns.
Tips
- Try to get the chest by the moat, behind sandbags at the most East corner of the mutant base. It contains a new assault rifle.
- Grenades are effective against mutants in bunkers, as 'close enough' provides significant damage.
- Running across the bridge to the mutant base requires luck, as the front door guardians can take at least two potshots at you.
- If you can't flush mutants out of the bunker, use grenades.
- When dealing with the rocket and grenadier mutants, bait the grenadier to advance closer while firing, then back up. This will draw him closer without him throwing grenades.
- When the rocket guy is near rocks, move up so you can barely see him, and he will likely hit the rocks with his rockets, allowing you to finish him with small arms fire.
- The rockets from the bunker rocket guys are not very accurate, so use your best judgment.
- Loot the bodies of fallen enemies on the way, but beware of mutants waiting in ambush.
- The mutants in the trenches may or may not be up for a fight; shooting them once or twice might make them keep their heads down.
- Use your medic to heal Talon squad, utilizing first aid kits before employing more advanced medical supplies.
