Learn how to recruit the Pipboy character in Fallout Tactics, his stats, and how to best utilize him for heavy weapons or sniping.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
    Trigger the Pipboy random encounter.
  2. 2
If your party has less than 6 members, he will be available for recruitment.
  3. 3
If your party is full, you can let him wander off the map to make him available as a recruit later.
  4. 4
You may encounter the Pipboy special encounter twice in the same square by leaving and re-entering it.
Tips
  • The Pipboy is a Level 10 character with base stats: ST-7, EN-7 (or 6), PE-6, CH-5, IN-6, AG-6, LK-10. His Vitality Drink usage may affect EN.
  • His tag skills are Small Guns, Big Guns, Energy Weapons, and Sneak, all below 80 but developable.
  • His trait is Bloody Mess.
  • He has the Flexible, Stunt Man, and Tag! perks, plus two others of lesser importance.
  • He cannot crouch or lay prone, and appears to always be standing.
  • He has 6 extra character points, totaling 11 extra points instead of the normal 5.
  • He gains perks at the normal rate (every 3 levels) despite having 5 at level 10.
  • He can run and walk, but slightly slower than a normal human.
  • His high ST (7), extremely high LK (10), and tag skills make him excellent for lighter heavy weapons (Bren gun, M-60, Avenger, Laser Gatling) and as a covert operative.
  • To make him a sniper, give him Gain Perception and Sharpshooter perks to reach 9 Perception, then Mutate (for Fast Shot) and Bonus Rate of Fire for excellent sniping capabilities.
  • A laser rifle or Browning with power armor makes him a perfect sniper.
  • He also serves as an exemplary grunt and fine scout.
  • If you let the Pipboy character wander off the map with a full party, he becomes available as a recruit, but his Luck stat will be 4 instead of 10.
  • If you find the Pipboy encounter after being assigned Newton, he may be Level 8 with Small Guns skill at 101.
  • If you return Core-Pipboy characters to the recruiting pool, only one will be available when talking to the recruiter again.
  • The Pipboy's name may appear as "CORE-pipboy" after recruitment.
  • He might get crippled easier than other characters.
