Discover how to use poison syringes in Fallout Tactics to avoid triggering enemy aggro, allowing you to loot bodies and bypass combat encounters without consequence.
Hey there! So, you've probably noticed that sometimes when you take stuff from fallen enemies, all their buddies suddenly decide you're the new target. Annoying, right? Well, there's a neat trick involving poison that can save you a lot of hassle in Fallout Tactics. It's all about how the game registers a kill.
Basically, when you kill someone with poison, the game doesn't flag it as a hostile act against the surrounding NPCs. This means you can loot that body clean without anyone else getting riled up. It's super useful for those times you really don't want to start a big fight or need to grab something specific from a downed enemy.
You can snag poison syringes from a hermit character you'll encounter. The trick is to use the poison on someone, then loot their body. The key thing to remember is that this effect is limited – you can only really pull this off about five times before it stops working for that particular encounter or area. So, choose your targets wisely!
This poison trick works on various characters you might run into, like the Arms Merchant or even an old Trader. It's a great way to get what you need without drawing unwanted attention. Just imagine being able to pilfer a merchant's entire stock after using poison on them – no rep loss, no aggro!
Important Warning: There's one place you absolutely should NOT use this poison trick: the Brotherhood of Steel bunker. I know, tempting to try it on General Dekker, but trust me, it backfires. While the rest of the bunker might not react, the 'avenger squad' (those really annoying BOS troopers who love shooting up your vehicles) *will* show up. And if you try to leave the bunker after that, it's game over. So, steer clear of using poison inside the bunker!
A Note on Merchants: Sometimes, the special encounters can be a bit mixed up in names. If you run into a 'Merchant' encounter, don't expect Pancors (that's usually the 'Trader' encounter). The Merchant, however, can be a goldmine! They might sell an FN FAL, science and piloting books, good explosives, rare ammo, and even a Gauss Pistol. If you happen to have a lot of Voodoo (a consumable), you can use it on the Merchant until they die. This way, you get all their awesome stock, *plus* their Browning M2 heavy machine gun, all without losing any reputation. It's a bit cheeky, but hey, it works!
And just so you know, the Farmer NPC also got a nice stock update in patch 1.25, potentially including Small Guns and Outdoorsman books, among other useful items.
The Floating Skull (Morte): You might come across a floating skull character. Killing this guy, unfortunately, gets you nothing good. In fact, it'll actually degrade your rank and reputation. So, unless you're just curious, it's best to leave Morte alone.
Invasion Recreationists: This is another special encounter. You'll meet a group led by someone named Clarisse. They talk about invading America (or sometimes Canada). They'll walk across a line between two signposts and then come back. After this little performance, Clarisse won't have much more to say, though she might offer you food you can't take. Some of the civilians might have weapons, like a Beretta, or useful items like stimpacks.
Mission 1: Brahim Wood - A Quick Strategy Guide
When you kick off the first mission in Brahim Wood, you'll start with Stitch (the medic) and Farsight (the sniper). Stitch is okay up close with his shotgun, but not great at range. Farsight is your long-distance killer, though she can miss sometimes. Your own character likely starts with an MP5, which is decent up close but burns ammo fast at range. Your first priority should be grabbing a rifle, especially if you're playing a sniper-type character. Work with Farsight to pick off enemies from a distance.
A solid tactic here is to use cover. Duck behind a wall or rock, pop up to take a shot or two, then duck back down. This makes you much harder to hit. Keep this in mind as you move through the areas.
Update on Overwatch: With a fix in patch 1.25, the old crouch-and-fire trick isn't as effective. Enemies might shoot you when you stand up, but they'll usually only get one shot off, which is still better than them getting multiple hits in.
Reloading Tip: Don't forget to reload your weapons! You can select everyone and hit the 'R' key. Or, for a faster reload with 0 AP in turn-based mode, you can drag the weapon from one hand to the other.
Moving Out: You'll start in a ruin. Head northeast to chat with the village elder. Then, crouch everyone and move towards the bridge north of you. Watch out for guards northwest of your position, past some rocks, and another patrolling northeast with a dog. Try to engage them one at a time. Get into the rocks for cover, and stay crouched – it makes you a smaller target. If you hide behind the rock structure with the firepit, Farsight can take shots at the guard to the northwest without being hit herself.
