Want to play Cuphead in classic black and white? Follow our guide to unlock the secret mode and experience the game like a 1930s cartoon!

Hey there! So you've been diving into Cuphead and maybe you're looking for a little something extra, huh? Well, you're in luck! There's a super cool secret mode that really leans into that amazing 1930s cartoon vibe. It's not exactly 'Expert Difficulty Explained,' but it's a fun challenge to unlock. Let's get you set up to find it!

What's the Big Deal?

This secret mode is basically Cuphead's black and white filter, complete with some neat audio effects that make it feel like you're playing an old-school cartoon. It’s a fantastic way to appreciate the game's incredible art style in a whole new way.

How to Find It: The Turtle's Challenge

Your journey to this mode starts in World 3. Head to the docks – you know, that area with all the water. Keep an eye out for a friendly turtle chilling there. He's the key!

When you chat with him, he'll mention something about pacifism and hint that a special bonus is up for grabs if you can beat all the platforming levels without taking down a single enemy. Yep, you heard that right – no shooting allowed in those specific stages!

Unlocking the Black and White Mode

So, here's your mission, should you choose to accept it: you need to go through all six of the game's platforming stages and complete them without defeating any enemies. These levels are:

  • Forest Follies
  • Treetop Trouble
  • Funfair Fever
  • Funhouse Frazzle
  • Perilous Piers
  • Rugged Ridge

If you manage to pull off a pacifist run on one of these levels, you'll notice the flag at the end has a big 'P' on it instead of the usual letter. Once you've done this for all six stages, head back to that turtle in World 3. He'll see your impressive feat and unlock the Black and White mode for you!

Don't Forget the Fork!

While you're exploring, make sure to also find the dapper fork wearing a monocle. He usually hangs out near the shop in one of the worlds. He's looking for players who can achieve
