Baroness Von Bon Bon is the formidable ruler of the Candy Kingdom, a multi-stage boss fight that tests your dodging skills and ability to manage multiple threats simultaneously. She resides at the peak of her confectionery fortress, unleashing a parade of her sugary subjects upon you before confronting you directly.

Recommended Loadout

• Shot: Spread - While the Peashooter is a reliable all-rounder, the Spread shot excels in this fight. Its wide arc allows you to hit multiple minions at once, significantly speeding up Phase 1. It's also effective against the Baroness herself when you can get close.
• Charm: Smoke Bomb - This charm is almost essential for Baroness Von Bon Bon. It grants invincibility during your dash, allowing you to phase through projectiles and even the castle's mouth in Phase 2, making evasion significantly easier.

Phase 1: The Candy Minions

In this initial phase, Baroness Von Bon Bon will remain stationary at the top of her castle, occasionally firing a candy cane projectile. Her primary threat comes from the three random candy minions she summons. You must defeat all three to progress. The minions are:

• Gumball Machine

  • Appearance: A large, pink gumball machine.
  • Attacks: It dispenses a barrage of gumballs that bounce around the arena. These gumballs travel in predictable arcs, so learning their trajectory is key.
  • Counter: The Spread shot is excellent here, as it can hit multiple gumballs and the machine itself. Focus on dodging the bouncing projectiles while unleashing damage.

• Cupcake

  • Appearance: A pink cupcake with a cherry on top.
  • Attacks: It fires a stream of pink frosting projectiles that travel in a straight line towards Cuphead.
  • Counter: This is another prime target for the Spread shot. Its attacks are easily dodged by simply moving perpendicular to the stream.

• Candy Corn

  • Appearance: A large, striped candy corn.
  • Attacks: It hops around the arena and periodically shoots out three small, homing projectiles that track Cuphead.
  • Counter: The Spread shot can hit multiple projectiles at once. Keep moving and dashing to evade the homing shots while focusing fire on the Candy Corn.

• Waffle

  • Appearance: A brown, square waffle.
  • Attacks: It shoots out a series of small, circular projectiles that spread out in a cone shape.
  • Counter: The Spread shot is effective for clearing out the projectiles. You'll need to weave through the gaps in the cone attack while damaging the Waffle.

• Jelly Bean

  • Appearance: A large, colorful jelly bean.
  • Attacks: It rolls back and forth across the screen, occasionally spitting out a single, fast-moving projectile.
  • Counter: This minion is relatively straightforward. Dodge its rolling movement and its single projectile. The Spread shot can quickly dispatch it.

Strategy for Phase 1: Prioritize targets that are causing the most trouble. If multiple minions are on screen, use the Spread shot to clear projectiles and damage them simultaneously. Always be mindful of the Baroness's candy cane shot, which fires diagonally downwards. The Smoke Bomb charm is invaluable here for dashing through any unavoidable projectiles.

Phase 2: The Castle Chase

Once you have defeated three of the Baroness's candy minions, the castle itself will animate and begin to chase you across the screen from right to left. The Baroness will detach her head and ride it, firing projectiles at you.

• Castle Attacks: The castle will periodically open its mouth, creating a large, gaping hazard.
• Baroness Attacks: Her detached head will fire a rapid stream of small, pink projectiles.
• Counter: This is where the Smoke Bomb truly shines. You will need to jump and dash to avoid the castle's mouth. The Smoke Bomb allows you to dash through the mouth unharmed. Simultaneously, you must shoot the Baroness's head. Get as close as you safely can to maximize the damage from your Spread shot.

Strategy for Phase 2: Maintain constant forward momentum while dodging. The key is to use your dash effectively with the Smoke Bomb to pass through the castle's mouth. Keep firing at the Baroness's head. Don't get too greedy; prioritize survival over dealing maximum damage if you're struggling with the timing.

Phase 3: The Baroness's Final Stand

After the castle chase, the Baroness will be left alone, standing on a platform. She will continue to fire her candy cane projectiles, and her head will occasionally detach and fire its rapid stream of projectiles.

• Baroness Attacks: She will fire candy canes diagonally downwards, and her head will detach and shoot pink projectiles.
• Counter: This phase is a pure test of endurance and dodging. The Spread shot is still effective if you can get close. Focus on dodging the candy canes and the head's projectiles while chipping away at her health.

Strategy for Phase 3: Stay focused on dodging. The candy cane projectiles can be tricky, and the head's rapid fire requires precise movement. Use the Smoke Bomb to dash through any projectiles you can't otherwise avoid. Keep firing consistently, and you will eventually defeat her.

Common Pitfalls

• Ignoring Minions: In Phase 1, it's tempting to focus solely on the Baroness's candy cane. However, the minions' attacks can quickly overwhelm you. Prioritize dealing with them.
• Underestimating the Castle Mouth: The castle's mouth in Phase 2 is a significant threat. Without the Smoke Bomb, timing your jumps and dashes to avoid it can be extremely difficult.
• Getting Cornered: In all phases, be mindful of your positioning. Avoid getting trapped between projectiles and the edge of the screen.
