Discover how to unlock Cuphead's secret black and white mode and audio filters. Learn about the pacifist challenge and grade requirements.

Hey there! So you've been diving into Cuphead and are ready for a little extra challenge, huh? Well, there's a super cool secret mode that gives the game that authentic 1930s cartoon vibe, complete with vintage audio filters. It's a neat way to experience the game differently, but it does involve a bit of a spoiler, so if you're trying to find it all on your own, now's your chance to turn back!

If you're still with me, let's get this secret mode unlocked. It's all about a special challenge involving pacifism and aiming for top grades.

What's This Secret Mode All About?

The mode we're after is a black and white filter that makes Cuphead look just like those old-school cartoons. On top of the visual change, you'll also get some awesome audio filters that really amp up that vintage feel. It's a fantastic way to appreciate the game's incredible art style even more.

Finding the Pacifist Challenge

Your journey to this secret mode really kicks off in World 3. Head to the hub area and look for a turtle chilling on the docks. This wise old turtle is your quest giver for this challenge. He'll chat with you about pacifism and drop a hint: a special bonus awaits if you can clear all the platforming levels without taking down a single enemy.

How to Unlock the Secret Mode

So, your mission is clear: you need to play through all six of Cuphead's platforming stages and beat them without firing a shot at any enemies. These levels are:

  1. Forest Follies
  2. Treetop Trouble
  3. Funfair Fever
  4. Funhouse Frazzle
  5. Perilous Piers
  6. Rugged Ridge

When you successfully complete one of these missions without defeating any enemies, you'll notice the flag you raise at the end of the level will have a 'P' on it. Keep this up for all six levels. Once you've managed that pacifist run through all of them, head back to that turtle in the World 3 hub. Talk to him, and he'll unlock the Black and White mode for you!

Don't Forget About the Fork!

While you're exploring, keep an eye out for another important character: a fork wearing a monocle. You'll usually find him hanging out near the world's shop. This dapper fellow is looking for
