Learn how to unlock Cuphead's secret black and white mode by completing platforming levels pacifist, and how to unlock the two-stripe filter by achieving Grade A or above on boss battles.

Cuphead features secret modes that can be unlocked by meeting specific in-game conditions. These modes offer a unique visual and auditory experience, reminiscent of classic 1930s cartoons.

Unlocking Black and White Mode:

To unlock the black and white mode, players must speak to the turtle NPC located in the World 3 hub. The turtle challenges players to clear all six platforming stages without defeating any enemies. The affected levels are:

  • Forest Follies
  • Treetop Trouble
  • Funfair Fever
  • Funhouse Frazzle
  • Perilous Piers
  • Rugged Ridge

Upon successfully completing these levels without attacking enemies, the flag at the end of each stage will display a 'P'. After completing all six, return to the turtle to unlock the black and white mode.

Unlocking the Two-Stripe Filter:

Additionally, players can unlock a two-stripe filter by speaking to the fork NPC found outside the world's shop. This NPC seeks "Grade A" players. To unlock this filter, players must achieve a Grade A or higher on all boss battles. While occasional Grade B scores are permissible, consistent high performance is key.
