Learn about the various enemies in Metroid: Other M, including Reos, Zoomers, Skrees, and more. Discover their attacks and weaknesses.
Enemies:
- Reo: A flying, green creature with large, pink eyes that often spawns from Fly Pods. They have a weak grab attack. Use the regular beam until you acquire the Diffusion beam, which is much more effective.
- Zoomer: A purple mollusk with spikes on its abdomen. They crawl on floors and walls, and hide in Morph Ball tunnels. You can generally ignore most of them.
- Skree (Shriekbat): These enemies hang on ceilings and dive at you. Skrees do not explode; they return to the ceiling.
- Sidehopper: A giant hopping monster. A single Overblast will defeat it, and Missiles are also effective.
- Bull: A floating spherical creature that emits gases. It will explode if you get too close.
- Ghalmanian: A large pink chameleon that spits acid and camouflages itself. Use Search View to locate it, then fire a missile followed by a Lethal Strike while it is still visible.
- Griptian: A vicious, green armadillo-like creature. A charge shot or bombs will interrupt its spin-attack. If it is standing, use Overblast then Lethal Strike to defeat them. The fastest method is to missile and then Lethal Strike them; missiles are effective even while they are rolling.
- Gripper: A plant resembling a Venus Flytrap. Some can dig underground and attack from below. If you see dirt spraying, move. Missiles are very effective, but charge shots are also acceptable. If it bites you, use a Morph Ball bomb to escape.
- Dragotix: A large bipedal creature with a mouth on its back. Shoot its glowing underside with missiles, or you can easily ignore them.
- Waver: A flying creature that uses its wings as a shield. Avoid its charge attack and shoot it when it is vulnerable.
- FG-1000: A hovering security robot with a tough shield. Until you obtain the Wave Beam, you can only damage its weak spot when it uses its charge shot. It also has a ramming attack; if only one is present, jumping will avoid it. Two missiles will defeat these easily in the first encounter, but be prepared to Sense Move (a defensive maneuver) while in Search View, as there are two at a time.
- Zero: The orange larval form of the Kihunter. They are immune to many attacks and will quickly metamorphose into a Kihunter if aggravated. Ignore them or hit them with bombs, the Plasma Beam, or Screw Attack.
- Kihunter: A purple wasp that spits acid and attempts to grab you. Wingless Kihunters will explode when they grab you. Overblast the flying ones by jumping up at them to remove their wings. Wingless ones can be Lethal Striked, allowing you to throw them at other enemies for area damage. The Diffusion beam is effective against them. They metamorphose from Zeros.
- Groganch: A giant tree-like beast that fires noxious bombs. Shoot its glowing weakpoint with missiles. There are only three in the game.
- Cyborg Zebesian: A space pirate enhanced with cyborg technology. Dodge their laser attacks and use Overblast or charge shots to stop them. An Aerial Missile after an Overblast will defeat them. Some Zebesians appear vulnerable to friendly fire from other Zebesians during the Overblast animation, resulting in an instant kill.
- Mella: Similar to Reos, but they shoot fireballs.
- Sova: A fiery creature resembling a Zoomer. When they raise their abdomen, they are about to dash at you.
- Heat Bull: Similar to the Bull, but emits flammable gases. They have a quick dash attack that you can Sense Move away from. If you freeze their pores shut, they will rush at you and explode.
- Dessgeega: A relative of the Sidehopper that stomps around. Overblast them twice at most to stop them. Charge shots can freeze them to the ground, making Overblasting safer. Their presence is indicated by screen shake and stomping sounds.
- Asborean: A plated enemy resembling a Horseshoe Crab. When standing, it attacks with melee and may spawn; fire a charge shot to deal with them. Be aware it may abruptly slide and run you over, spawning enemies along the way. Avoid it by following and jumping as it makes sharp turns. Fire a charge shot when it sticks its head out, but before its fast grab attack. Use Lethal Strike when it tires and fire at its head twice with a beam. Screw Attack instantly kills the Asborean.
- Snomer: A Zoomer found in Sector 2 with a quick rolling attack. They have a specific hitbox when burrowing out of the snow, allowing you to roll and sometimes walk around them as they appear.
- Himella: Similar to Reos, but they shoot icicles. Do not ignore them, as they can hit you if you don't shoot them.
- Volfon: An arctic beast with horns. Charge shots will freeze it to the ground. In this state, fire a missile at its head. They travel in packs of three. Sense Move will dodge all of their attacks.
- Joulion: A hovering seahorse that fires electrical attacks. They will shoot small projectiles after some time. Shooting it causes it to overload and explode, dealing splash damage if you are close.
- Fumbleye: A large, cyclopean polyp with a hooked tail. It is very easy to avoid its projectiles and grab attack by pretending it's not there.
- Gigafraug: A huge, charging bipedal creature.
