Learn how to use IBJ and Jump Extend tricks in Metroid: Other M to bypass the broken bridge in Sector 2 and grab an early Energy Tank and Missile Tank.

Hey there! So, you've hit a bit of a snag in Sector 2 with that icy bridge, huh? Normally, you'd need the Speed Booster to get across, but I've got a neat trick for you. We're going to use some advanced movement techniques to bypass it and snag some sweet early upgrades!

Walkthrough
  1. 1
First things first, head to the bottom of the room. You'll want to climb up the right side until you can morph into a ball and enter a tunnel.
  2. 2
Once the camera shifts to a horizontal view, keep an eye out for an ice pillar in the background. Position your morph ball just to the right of that pillar.
  3. 3
Now, it's time for the IBJ (Ice-Block Jump). Start bombing your way upwards and to the right, aiming towards the blue dot on your mini-map. You'll need to get a good amount of height here.
  4. 4
For the final bomb, time it so it knocks you towards the blue dot. As soon as you start falling past the first ledge, unmorph.
  5. 5
Immediately start chaining Jump Extends. Keep using this move until you grab onto the ledge where an Energy Tank is waiting for you.
  6. 6
If you want to push your luck a bit further, you can grab an early Missile Tank and an Energy Part. However, you'll eventually hit a wall that requires the Speed Booster to access the Experimental Floor, so don't go too far past the main prize.
Tips
  • This maneuver takes a little practice, so don't get discouraged if you don't nail it on the first try! The timing for the IBJ and the subsequent Jump Extends is key.
  • Focus on getting the height right with the IBJ. If you miss the ledge, you'll just fall back down and can try again.
  • The goal here is to get those early collectibles. You'll naturally hit a point where the Speed Booster is required, so just turn back then.
