Learn how to defeat Nightmare, Boss 11 in Metroid: Other M. This guide covers Nightmare's attacks, weaknesses, and strategies for survival.
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Gravity device on tail (freeze with beam)
- Face (vulnerable after freezing tail device)
- Plasma Beam (effective when camera zooms in)
Phases:
- Nightmare fires gravity-spheres and lasers. Use Sense Move to dodge spheres and build charge. Use Space Jump to dodge lasers.
- Freeze the gravity device on Nightmare's tail with your beam.
- Fire three Super Missiles at its face once the tail device is frozen.
- When the camera zooms in, use Concentrate or Search View to fire your Plasma Beam until autoaim is acquired in Normal View when its tail lights up.
- Nightmare crawls on the platform. Hug the wall and Space Jump to avoid this, or Space Jump off the platform until you can get back on. Avoid falling to lower levels.
- Freeze the tail device again and fire more Super Missiles until its mask shatters.
Strategy:
- Utilize the View Trick, Fast and Instant Super Missiles for an easier fight.
- When Nightmare is low on life, the timing for dodging lasers becomes more strict. Try to be between beams when the first fires, then Spacejump up briefly, land, and prepare to jump over the next. Run clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on the laser sweep.
- After defeating Nightmare, take the door at the top of the room, go down the path, and take the elevator to Sector 0. Save at the Navigation Booth.
- Continue down the path. When forced into Search View, look left for a cutscene.
- Run back and disregard the Zebesians. Run towards the vacuum of space. Samus will activate the Gravity Feature before being sucked out.
- Continue running straight to be safe. Save if desired.
- Return to Sector 2, run straight, then Shinespark left. Go into the room where you fought Nightmare, drop down, and try to walk into the door. Nightmare will stop you again.
