Walkthrough for the Old Friends assignment in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (ME1). Learn how to start the quest, make dialogue choices, and earn Paragon/Renegade points.
Walkthrough
- 1To start the "Old Friends" assignment, you must have completed one of the three missions after leaving the Citadel for the first time (Therum, Feros, or Noveria). Find Finch standing near the Rapid Transit terminal outside of Chora's Den in the Wards on the Citadel. Speak with him to begin the assignment.
- 2Head into Chora's Den and speak with the Turian Guard. You have several dialogue options:
- "I've got a warning.": This informs the guard of Finch's scheme, earning you Paragon +2 and skipping any Charm/Intimidate checks with the guard. Finch will become angry.
- 3"I want a human released." or "Cut Curt Weisman loose.": These options advance the conversation, and the Turian Guard will reveal that Finch was not entirely truthful about his associate's crimes.
- 4After the guard reveals Finch's deception, you have three options to try and free the prisoner:
- "I need your help" (Charm 8): This option involves lying to the guard to secure the prisoner's release, earning you Renegade +9.
- 5"Make it negotiable." (Intimidate 8): This option involves threatening the guard to free the prisoner, earning you Renegade +9.
- 6"Goodbye." or "Nevermind.": If you do not have sufficient Charm or Intimidate ranks, you can end the conversation without freeing the prisoner.
- 7If you fail the Charm/Intimidate checks with the Turian Guard, or choose not to pursue that path, Finch will appear and threaten to expose you. You then have more options:
- "This won't help you." (Charm 6): This convinces Finch to back down, earning you Paragon +8.
- 8"So what?" (Intimidate 6): This makes it clear you are not intimidated by Finch's threats, earning you Renegade +9.
- 9"You can't do this." or "This is pointless.": Finch will demand 500 credits for his silence. Paying him earns you Paragon +2.
- 10(Shoot him.): You can choose to shoot Finch, ending the confrontation.
- 11The assignment is completed by either convincing the Turian Guard, convincing Finch, paying Finch, or shooting Finch.
Tips
- This assignment is a good way to earn Paragon or Renegade points, even if you haven't invested heavily in Charm or Intimidate skills.
- The choice to shoot Finch is a direct and decisive way to end the encounter, and is often seen as a fitting response to his blackmail attempt.
- Paragon or Renegade Points based on your choices.
