Learn how to build Support ranks in Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, from C to S-Rank, and unlock powerful bonuses, marriage, and even children units!
Hey there! So, we've talked a bit about how important classes and reclassing are in Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, right? Well, a huge part of that comes down to your characters' relationships. Let's dive into how you can get your units friendly with each other, maybe even spark some romance!
As your characters fight side-by-side or paired up on the battlefield, they'll slowly build up hidden Support Points. You'll notice little hearts popping up to show their bond is growing. Outside of battles, you can also head to the Support option in the menu. Occasionally, you'll find new conversations pop up here. These are super interesting because they give you more insight into your characters' personalities and, more importantly, they help raise your characters' Support Rank. It starts at 'C' and can go all the way up to 'A', 'A+', or even 'S'. You can also slowly build these points through various MyCastle events.
Reaching an A-Rank support between characters who aren't your Avatar gives you some sweet benefits when they're paired up in battle. But things get really interesting once you pass 'A'! If you decide who you want your Avatar to marry, reaching S-Rank with them makes them an official couple. Not only do you unlock a special Paralogue chapter to recruit their child, but you'll also gain access to your spouse's classes using a Partner Seal.
Now, for same-gender pairings, you won't reach S-Rank. Instead, you can achieve an A+ Rank, which is like a super-strong platonic friendship. These work a bit differently. When two characters reach S-Rank, they're locked in – neither can pursue another S-Rank relationship. It's monogamy for them!
A+ Rank supports are a bit more flexible but also one-way. For example, if Takumi reaches A+ with Ryoma, Takumi gets access to the Swordmaster class via a Friendship Seal. However, Ryoma doesn't automatically get the Sniper class in return. If Ryoma wants the Sniper class, he'd need to reach A+ with Takumi himself. He could also choose to A+ support Silas to gain the Paladin class, but Silas wouldn't get the Swordmaster class unless he also A+ supported Ryoma.
Your Avatar is a special case – they can't A+ support with anyone. But don't worry, they have the widest access to classes through the Friendship Seal! Anyone your Avatar reaches an A Rank with (who is the same gender as your Avatar) will grant their classes to your Avatar via the Friendship Seal. Seriously, aim to reach A Rank with as many of your allies as possible! It's great for battlefield bonuses and you get to fill out that handy Support Log too.
