Learn about the Merchant class in Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright! Discover its stats, skills like Profiteer and Spendthrift, and how to use it effectively.

The Merchant is a Hoshidan advanced class that focuses on trading and protecting investments, using both bows and lances. While not the strongest offensive class on its own, its unique skills can provide valuable benefits to your army.

Skills:

• Profiteer: Has a Luck % chance of obtaining a Gold Bar at the end of your turn.
• Spendthrift: In battle, spend one Gold Bar to increase damage output by +10 points and mitigate damage by -10 points.

While the Merchant's base stats might not impress compared to other offensive classes, its real strength lies in its unique skills. Profiteer lets you passively gain Gold Bars, which are then consumed by Spendthrift. When Spendthrift is active, you get a significant boost to both your damage dealt and damage taken reduction, making the Merchant surprisingly potent in combat if you have enough Gold Bars. You can even combine Spendthrift with the Master of Arms skill Life or Death for even greater damage output!

The Merchant isn't typically a class you'd want to keep a unit in permanently. However, it's a fantastic class to dip into briefly to learn its skills. Grabbing Profiteer and Spendthrift can really boost the offensive capabilities of your characters as they move on to more powerful classes.

Tip: To get more Gold Bars, regularly feed Lilith in your MyCastle! This will help fuel the Spendthrift skill.
