Your guide to the Rotary Shaft in Final Fantasy XIII. Learn enemy weaknesses, item locations, and the best strategies to clear this challenging area.
Alright, so you've made it to the Rotary Shaft. This place is packed with enemies guarding some pretty sweet loot, so we'll need to be strategic. There are four Spheres here, but you'll have to fight for each one. Let's break it down.
Walkthrough
- 1First off, head to the right side of the area. You'll run into some Vespid Soldiers. Don't underestimate them, especially when they're in groups or with a tougher enemy. Their Aeroga attack can be brutal if they all cast it at once, so make them your priority target.
- 2Next, push forward to find two Raiders and a Thermadon. Focus on taking down the Raiders first, as they can be a nuisance. Once they're dealt with, turn your attention to the Thermadon. It's super resistant to damage until it's Staggered, but once it is, it goes down fast. Be ready for its powerful Photon Burst attack. After you defeat the Thermadon, check the small path where it was standing – you'll find a White Cape there.
- 3Now, make your way around to the opposite side of the outer ring (that's the left side). You'll be fighting your way through more enemies, but keep pushing. On this side, you'll find a Pain Dampener. Grab it, and then head towards the central ring of the area.
- 4In the central ring, you'll find two more Spheres. One contains Rhodochrosite, and the other has a Perfect Conductor. Both of these are fantastic components for upgrading your gear, so definitely snag them.
- 5Once you've collected everything and cleared out the enemies, just head for the waypoint to continue with the story.
Enemy Notes:
- Flanitor: These guys have low HP but can heal their injured allies, so try to take them out quickly.
- Flanborg: They're immune to Lightning but take double damage from Water attacks. They're also vulnerable to Deshell and Deprotect.
- Vespid Soldier: Immune to Wind, these guys are really dangerous if they spam their Aeroga attack. Take them out ASAP.
- Thermadon: This big guy has massive damage resistance until Staggered. Once it's Staggered, it's super weak. Watch out for its Photon Burst attack.
Tips
- Prioritize taking out the Vespid Soldiers first, especially when they're in groups, to avoid getting overwhelmed by Aeroga.
- Focus on Staggering the Thermadon quickly after dealing with the Raiders to minimize the damage it can deal.
- Don't forget to explore the small path where the Thermadon was to find the White Cape.
- Make sure to grab both the Rhodochrosite and the Perfect Conductor from the central ring; they're great for upgrades.
