The 'Missing: Rainier' quest is one of those, and it kicks off at the Sterling Hotel missing person board. First things first, head back to the lab on Ocean Avenue. You'll notice there are a bunch of zombies hanging around the entrance and even in the hallway leading inside. Keep an eye out, because there's a Crusher in the mix, so be ready for a fight right off the bat.

Push your way into the lab and clear out all the zombies blocking your path.

Once you get deeper into the lab, you'll find it's absolutely crawling with more undead. Among them is a nasty Firestorm Slobber. Take care of all the regular zombies first, then focus on the Slobber. He's important because he drops a note when you defeat him, which will tell you where Rainier ended up.

After you've dealt with the Firestorm Slobber and grabbed his note, you'll learn that Rainier is down in The Metro, near Hollywood Boulevard. So, your next move is to fast-travel to Hollywood Boulevard and make your way back to The Metro entrance.

Once you're inside The Metro, you need to head down to the floor just above the stairways that are blocked off. Fight your way through any zombies you encounter on your descent. As you get closer to Rainier's location, you'll actually hear him talking, so listen up! When you're near the red door on the left side of the room, go up to it and speak with Rainier to continue the quest.

Now, you'll need to drop down to the lower level to grab the Utility Closet Key. The catch? A tough Crusher named Lenny is guarding it. As you start chipping away at Lenny's health, more zombies will begin to spawn in. Be extra careful because a Screamer will eventually show up, and you'll want to take it out quickly to avoid getting swarmed. Once you finally defeat Lenny, he'll drop the Utility Closet Key. Grab it and head back upstairs to unlock that red door.

Sadly, Rainier isn't quite himself anymore – he's turned into a Burster. You'll need to use a gun or a curveball to take him down from a distance. While you're dealing with him, watch out for the other zombies that are still around. Once Rainier is down, the 'Missing: Rainier' quest will be marked as complete, and you'll earn the Superior Melee Puncturator Mod Blueprint.

After the quest wraps up, don't forget to check out the closet where Rainier was being held. Inside, you'll find Rainier's note and, more importantly, the Custodian's Locker Key.

Finally, head over to the nearby Blueprint Table room. Use the Custodian's Locker Key on the lockers located on the right side of the room. This will reward you with the Superior Puncturator Nail Gun.

Tips

When you first head back to the Ocean Avenue Lab, be prepared for a fight. The Crusher near the entrance can catch you off guard if you're not paying attention.
The Firestorm Slobber in the lab hits hard and can create hazardous fire zones. Prioritize taking out other zombies first so you can focus on him without being overwhelmed.
In The Metro, listen carefully for Rainier's voice. It's your best indicator that you're getting close.
Dealing with Lenny and the additional spawns can be tough. Try to keep moving and manage your crowd control to avoid getting cornered, especially when the Screamer appears.
