Understand weapon stats in dead island 2: Power, Damage, Base Damage Type, Force, Speed, Max Durability, Critical Multiplier, and Limb Damage.
Walkthrough
- 1Power: This is the overall level of a weapon, including mods and perks. A weapon with 200 Power is better than one with 150 Power. Higher-level, rarer, and upgraded weapons generally have higher Power ratings. Power does not reflect personal preference or situational utility.
- 2Damage: This is the amount of damage done per hit. A higher Damage stat lowers a zombie’s health more with each hit. This stat does not account for critical hits, attack speed, or elemental damage. It is generally the only stat that increases when you level up a weapon.
- 3Base Damage Type: This determines the weapon's damage without mods, either Blunt or Sharp. Both Blunt and Sharp damage increase the likelihood of Maiming zombies. Weapons also have profiles:
- Bulldozer: Drains Stability. Heavy Attacks are Critical Hits. Thrown weapons cause Forceful explosions.
- 4Frenzy: Rapid attacks trigger Critical Hits, and a minor Attack Speed boost. Effect stacks.
- 5Headhunter: Target Heads for Critical Hits. Heavy Attacks boost Agility and don’t slow while charging.
- 6Maiming: Maiming regains Stamina. Target Limbs for Critical Hits.
- 7Force: This shows how much Stability you’ll drain with each hit. Depleting a zombie’s Stability may knock them down or make them vulnerable.
- 8Speed: This measures how fast the weapon attacks relative to its item type. Most weapons have a base Speed of 1.0, but actual attack speeds can vary significantly between weapons with the same Speed stat.
- 9Max Durability: This is how much the weapon can be used before it breaks. Most proper weapons have around 40~ Durability, while improvised weapons have around 10~. Non-improvised weapons can be repaired at a Workbench for a fee.
- 10Critical Multiplier: This is the amount by which damage is multiplied when landing critical hits. A weapon with a Critical Hit Multiplier of 1.4 deals x1.4 Critical Hit Damage (140%). Weapon profiles indicate what triggers critical hits (e.g., Maiming weapons proc critical hits when striking enemy limbs, Headhunter weapons when headshotting enemies). Some enemies are more or less vulnerable to critical damage depending on circumstances, such as needing their Stability depleted or helmets removed.
- 11Limb Damage: Weapons with high Limb Damage and the Maiming property are effective at disabling enemy limbs.
Tips
- Maintain weapon variety on your weapon wheel, as different enemies may be resistant to Blunt or Sharp damage.
- Use a weapon’s profile to your advantage; for example, a Maiming weapon is great for cutting off enemy legs, while a Headhunter rewards headshots.
- Switch between several weapons to make them last longer, and repair non-improvised weapons at a Workbench.
- Be aware that enemies with helmets won’t take headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill) damage until their helmet is removed.
