The best way to approach Dead Island 2's trophies and achievements is to first play through the main story. There are no missable achievements, so focus on completing the campaign. As you play, don't get too attached to specific weapons, as they will quickly become underleveled. Instead, rely on weapons you find, which will scale to your level. Consider leaving high-level loot chests for later when you're at a higher level.

During the story, it's beneficial to have a variety of weapon types and elemental affinities. This will help you complete the numerous in-game Challenges, one of which requires completing the first tier of every Challenge. Keeping track of these as you progress will save you time later.

Also, integrate Side Quests and Lost and Found quests into your playthrough. There are 48 in total, but you only need to complete 40. These quests offer valuable experience, weapons, and make the main story more manageable.

After finishing the main story, dedicate your attention to the remaining Side Quests and Lost and Found quests. You need to complete 40 out of the 48 available. Be aware that specific quests are tied to achievements, so you can't just complete any 40. Additionally, five co-op quests (main story or side) are required for a particular trophy.

Completing these 27 specific quests leaves 13 miscellaneous ones to reach the target of 40.

The final stage involves completing the first tier of every Challenge in the game. While many Challenges are visible early on, some won't track until later in the game. There are 84 Challenges across six categories, and only the first tier needs to be completed for progress.

While working on Challenges, you can also clean up any remaining miscellaneous trophies, such as unlocking 10 Lockboxes (five are needed for a Challenge), reaching level 30, and others that you might have missed during the main story and side quest progression.
