Learn the basics of Pokemon battles in Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. Understand turn-based combat, battle options (Fight, Pokémon, Bag), and battle outcomes like fainting and gaining experience.

In Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, battles primarily occur against other Pokémon trainers, with rare exceptions for wild Pokémon. All battles function identically.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
At the start of a battle, both trainers send out their first available Pokémon. If a Pokémon has fainted, the next in line is sent out.
  2. 2
Battles are turn-based. Each turn, you and your opponent choose an action. Take your time to think, unless battling a wild Pokémon, which has a time limit.
  3. 3
There is no option to run from a battle.
  4. 4
Once a battle starts, you have three options:
    • Fight: Select one of your Pokémon's up to 4 moves. Moves with available PP can be used. Press Y to see a move's description (Poké Ball Plus users cannot do this).
  5. 5
Pokémon: View your party and switch to a different Pokémon. This is useful if your current Pokémon is at a disadvantage, but be aware the switch-in may take damage.
  6. 6
Bag: Access healing items, battle items, or items to cure negative status conditions.
  7. 7
After a move is selected, the Pokémon with the higher Speed stat attacks first, unless a move has increased priority (e.g., Quick Attack). Switching Pokémon or using an item takes priority over other actions.
  8. 8
If a move deals damage, the target Pokémon's HP decreases. When HP reaches 0, the Pokémon faints and is removed from battle. The owner must send out another Pokémon. If no Pokémon remain, the battle ends.
  9. 9
Knocking out an opposing Pokémon earns your Pokémon experience points (XP). Those that participated directly gain extra XP. Enough XP can lead to a Level Up, increasing stats, potentially learning new moves, or evolving.
  10. 10
At the end of a trainer battle, the loser forfeits prize money, and the winner receives Poké Balls.
Tips
  • Switching Pokémon can be a viable tactic if your current Pokémon is disadvantaged, but be prepared for your incoming Pokémon to take damage.
  • Use the Bag to heal Pokémon or cure status conditions to maintain your team's strength.
  • Pay attention to Pokémon Speed stats and move priority to gain an advantage in combat.
