Alright, hunter! Before you even think about stepping into the field, we need to talk about preparation. In Monster Hunter Generations, having the right items and knowing how to make them is just as important as your weapon. Think of it as half the battle!

You've probably figured out that items are a thing in this game, and yeah, they're super helpful. While not every single item is strictly necessary, being able to heal yourself is pretty much mandatory. Plus, items like bombs can seriously speed up your hunts.

There's a TON of items in the game, and you absolutely don't want to carry them all at once. The trick is to customize your item set for each monster. For example, flying monsters hate Flash Bombs – they'll get blinded and come crashing down. Monsters that love to burrow? They're super sensitive to sound, so a well-timed Sonic Bomb can stun them. And if a monster has a horn you need to break, a perfectly placed Barrel Bomb is your best bet. Seriously, the possibilities are endless!

You can get items in a few ways: gathering them out in the field during a quest, buying them at the market (some are market-exclusive!), or by combining things you find. Most of the really useful stuff you'll need to craft yourself. Head to your item box and select the Combine option. Try mixing a Herb with a Blue Mushroom – that makes a Potion. Then, combine that Potion with Honey, and bam! You've got a Mega Potion, which is your bread-and-butter healing item. Don't forget to use the in-game combination list! To improve your chances of success when combining, you can buy Combo Books from the market.

Don't forget about gathering! After you defeat a monster, you get a minute to carve it. Use that time wisely! Make it a habit to gather from every gathering spot you see near you before leaving the area. Do this after every quest, and you'll be swimming in items in no time.
