Traitor's Bounty

Follow our step-by-step guide to complete the Traitor's Bounty sidequest in Horizon Zero Dawn. Track Uthid, fight mercenaries, and defeat elite guards.

Alright, so you're exploring Sunfall and you'll automatically pick up the 'Traitor's Bounty' sidequest. Just talk to Vanasha during the 'Deep Secrets of the Earth' main quest. She'll ask you to meet her outside in the tent city. When you approach her, a scene will play out, and she'll task you with tracking down Uthid, a Shadow Carja officer who's been branded a traitor. Vanasha thinks he might be hiding out at the Greenclimb, and suggests you start by looking for the Three Dead Trees.

First things first, head northwest of the Unflinching Gate to find the Three Dead Trees. Once you get there, you'll spot some tracks on the ground. Follow these tracks, and they'll lead you to some handholds. You'll need to climb and jump your way up to reach the Greenclimb. Up there, you'll find some food scraps and another trail. Follow this new trail, and it'll lead you to some dead machines. Be warned, these will attract some Glinthawks. You've probably fought these birds before, so you know the drill: fire arrows are your best friend here. They'll bring them crashing down, leaving them open for a few quick spear strikes.

After dealing with the Glinthawks, pick up Uthid's trail again. It'll lead you right to him, but just as you find him, some mercenaries will crash the party. You'll be up against a mix of archers and melee units. Your best bet is to focus on the archers first, but keep an eye on those melee guys as they close in. It might even be smart to take them out before they get too close. Once all the mercenaries are down, follow Uthid to a wall. He'll help you climb it – just press [Triangle] when prompted. Grab any supplies you can find, including a Firespitter, because more enemies are on their way.

This next fight is definitely tougher than the last one. The enemies have the high ground, and there are a lot more melee thugs this time. Try to find some cover to protect yourself from the archers while you take out each of the melee enemies as they get close enough to attack. Once everyone is defeated, you'll need Uthid's help again to reach the next ledge. Follow him to the final area.

Here, Bahavas will unleash his guards on you – and they're elite enemies. Make taking down the one with the Firestriker your top priority. Once that's done, you can use his weapon to deal with the other two enemies if you like. Then, use Uthid's help to reach Bahavas. After their little chat, Vanasha will show up, thank you, and give you the heads-up about a new quest that kicks off right after this one.
