Geared Up: Stormslinger

Learn how to upgrade the Stormslinger in Horizon Zero Dawn's The Frozen Wilds DLC. Follow our guide to get the Stormbird Talon and enhance your weapon!

Alright, so you're starting out in The Frozen Wilds and Burgrend mentioned his daughter? Her name is Varga, and she's hanging out in Longnotch. Let's go pay her a visit!

When you find Varga, she's a real gearhead and she's impressed with your spear. She's got her eye on some of the Banuk weapons that the shamans and chieftains carry around. You'll get a dialogue option to show her one of the new weapons you've picked up in the Cut. Don't worry about picking the 'wrong' one, as you can come back later for the others. For this guide, we'll focus on getting the Stormslinger upgraded first. Just a heads-up, you'll need to have completed 'The Shaman's Path' quest and gotten the Stormslinger from Ourea before Varga can work her magic on it.

Varga is eager to make your Stormslinger even better, but she needs a specific part: a Stormbird Talon. The cool part is, she's not just going to send you off on your own. She'll actually tag along with you to get it! This means leaving the snowy Cut behind and heading back out into the desert to a known Stormbird territory.

You'll see the Stormbird site marked on your map, pretty close to the Greatrun Hunting Grounds. If you've got a campfire nearby, fast travel there to save yourself some time. Once you arrive, Varga will be waiting by a tree. Keep an eye on the sky – a Stormbird will be circling overhead. It's time to take it down!

After you've successfully defeated the Stormbird, make sure to loot its remains to get that crucial Stormbird Talon. Once you've got it, head back to Varga. She'll take your Stormslinger and upgrade it into a legendary weapon for you. After that little bit of business, she'll want to chat again. You'll get another dialogue option to pick another weapon for her to work on. For this next step, we'll be looking to upgrade the Icerail.
