Learn the easiest strategy to defeat the Timewyrm boss in Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — Definitive Edition, including party setup and item usage.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Before the battle, ensure your four main characters (Hero, Erik, Veronica, Rab) are pepped up. To do this, engage in a battle, defend until characters are pepped, then switch them out to preserve the state.
  2. 2
Fly to the giant rift over the Tower of Lost Time using Cetacea.
  3. 3
The battle begins with Timewyrm’s Tail in the front and Timewyrm in the background. You can only attack the Tail initially.
  4. 4
Timewyrm in the background can buff the Tail with Oomphle or cast spells like Kacrackle.
  5. 5
The Tail has several attacks: a fire breath, a lightning breath (more damaging), and a multi-hit ground smash. It can also use Sweet Breath to inflict sleep, Kasizzle, Kafrizzle, and Kafuddle.
  6. 6
When the Tail’s eyes gleam, your Magical Mending and spell resistance are lowered. The Tail may also use disruptive wave to remove buffs.
  7. 7
Once enough damage is dealt to the Tail, it will use disruptive wave and move to the background. The main Timewyrm body will then move to the front.
  8. 8
The main Timewyrm can cast a magical mist that doubles MP cost for abilities, halving Magic Burst's damage. It also uses desperate attacks, bolts from the blue (party-wide lightning), and Kacrackle (party-wide ice).
  9. 9
When both parts are in the front, they will switch positions, and the active boss will use disruptive wave to remove all buffs.
  10. 10
Continue attacking the active boss, managing buffs and debuffs.
Tips
  • The Yggdragon’s Blessing Pep Power makes your characters invulnerable while active.
  • Veronica’s Magic Burst deals approximately 3x her MP in damage. Aim for 999 MP for nearly 3,000 damage per cast.
  • Carry many Pep Pops (around 20 per character) and Elfin Elixirs. Pep Pops are expensive (200,000G each) and can be bought in Cobblestone. Elfin Elixirs cost 10,000 Tokens at the Octagonia Casino.
  • Rab is included in the suggested party to strip enemy buffs, which is important even with invincibility active.
  • Catholicon Rings can protect against status effects like sleep from Sweet Breath.
  • Be aware that turn order can sometimes affect the strategy's success.

Defeating the Timewyrm is part of the endgame progression and unlocks further story elements.
