Follow our comprehensive guide to complete the 'In Search of Hope: Character Interludes' in Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — Definitive Edition, including Gondolia and Gallopolis.

This guide covers the 'In Search of Hope: Character Interludes' section of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — Definitive Edition, focusing on Sylvando's journey through Gondolia and the Gallopolis Region.

Gondolia

Upon arriving in Gondolia, you'll speak with Hercules, who informs you about the Beastly Boys stealing a knapsack. Your inventory is limited to Sylvando's personal items during these interludes. While shops offer new equipment, it's likely outclassed by what you've forged, and funds may be low. It's advisable to ensure Sylvando has Hustle Dance and some healing items, though extensive combat isn't required.

Proceed to the northern plaza and find Tetsu, a blacksmith from Hotto, by the water. After a cutscene, Sylvando agrees to help Tetsu retrieve his stolen knapsack from the Beastly Boys. Locate the older brother's stall near the town entrance and speak to the brothers to initiate a fight. The Beastly Boys are manageable, especially with Dave assisting. Target the one on the left first, as he can buff the enemy party's attack. After the battle, you'll recover Tetsu's knapsack. Return it to Tetsu, and the Beastly Boys will offer to join Sylvando's cause, which he accepts.

Laguna di Gondolia

Ignore the path towards Grotta della Fonte and head for the Gallopolis Region exit. The Laguna di Gondolia introduces new enemies, including Vicious variations of the Morphean Mushroom and Midnight Horknight. These Vicious enemies are tougher but offer more experience. Keep an eye on Sylvando's health during these encounters. The three Beastly Boys will now join your battles, increasing your party size, though you'll only control Sylvando.

As you travel east, you'll find a priest in a small cave. He's tired and misses his mother's milk. A nearby cow, affected by the world's state, isn't producing milk. Speak to the cow, and your party will cheer it up, yielding some Fresh Milk. Bring the milk back to the priest, and he will join your group. Continue to the Gallopolis Region.

Gallopolis Region

Upon entering the Gallopolis Region, a young NPC recognizes you as Great Sylvando and requests your help to save the local circus from shutting down. Agreeing to help, you'll be tasked with finding two more performers. The desert is not ideal for the circus. As with the previous area, new treasures are unlikely, but new enemies can be encountered and added to your bestiary; these are not missable.

Head east, using the campfire to save and rest if needed. Make your way to the peninsula south of Gallopolis. Here, a knight will ask for your assistance against monsters harassing people. Agree to help and engage the four Vicious Fandangows. They are similar to their regular counterparts, but their dance can cause status effects.
