Explore Waukeen's Promenade, Athkatla's commercial hub in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. Includes Den of the Seven Vales, Adventurer's Mart, and more.

Warning: Do not cast any arcane magic while outdoors in Athkatla, as it will trigger a difficult battle. Divine magic and arcane magic cast indoors are safe.

Waukeen's Promenade serves as Athkatla's (a city) commercial center, though its northern part is heavily damaged. Lady Beth on the ground level can help you get your bearings (get your bearings means to understand your surroundings).

The Promenade is structured in tiers. The northern section is near your starting area. On the first tier, you'll find a Temple of Ilmater, which becomes important later in the game. Above that is the Mithrest Inn, offering accommodation up to Royal standard.

Adjacent to the Mithrest Inn is the Den of the Seven Vales, providing accommodation up to Noble standard. If you are just beginning, avoid going upstairs. When you return later, prepare yourself (buff up) and ascend. An evil group awaits in the upstairs bedroom: a Mage named Sorcerous Amon and his familiar, Pooky, a Barbarian named Smaeluv Orcslicer, a Fighter named Mencar Pebblecrusher, and a Thief named Brenann Risling.

Mencar Pebblecrusher will taunt you upon approach, and the group will bicker before engaging you. You can attempt to de-escalate the situation or initiate combat. It is advisable to eliminate one of the spellcasters (Amon or Pooky) with a surprise attack from behind (backstab). Have Jaheira cast Insect Plague on one of the fighters to prevent the remaining caster from becoming unselectable, then focus on your targets. Smaeluv enters a state of uncontrolled rage (berserk), making him a significant threat. Brenann Risling utilizes a Ring of Invisibility and attempts to attack your party members from behind. Using Glitterdust can help keep him visible. He will try to escape when his health is low, so try to defeat him before he flees. The items dropped by this group are valuable for the early stages of the game: a Cursed Berserking Sword +3, a War Hammer +1, Studded Leather Armor +1 and Full Plate Mail, a Cloak of Non-Detection, a Sandthief's Ring, a Wand of Lightning, three Potions of Extra Healing, a Potion of Fire Giant Strength, and a high-level spell scroll. There are also three chests containing minor loot; all are locked, and one is trapped.

Above the inns are two merchants: Hes, who sells basic weapons and armor, and Galoomp the Bookkeeper, who offers arcane scrolls up to level 5, various protective scrolls, and a Scroll Case, which is a worthwhile purchase.

Back on the ground level, approach the Circus Tent. A guard outside will warn you away. Something mysterious has occurred inside, and no one who has entered has returned. Offer to investigate, and the guard will permit you entry. However, it is recommended to wait until you have recruited more party members before entering. Speak to Giran nearby to receive updated objectives. You can also speak to Fearghus, who is near the animal cages, but he will not provide significant information.

At night, a halfling named Jayes can be found in the eastern part of the district. He sells various +2 items, including the Biter +2 dart if you imported it from Siege of Dragonspear. Importantly, he acts as a fence (a person who buys stolen goods) and will purchase items acquired through illicit means.

On the western side, you will find a representative for the Adventurer's Mart. This is a shop where you will likely spend a considerable amount of your gold. Speak to Ribald at the main counter to view his inventory.
