As you travel between areas in Athkatla, you may be waylaid by a number of random encounters.

Renfeld

You will come across a group of thugs attacking a man called Renfeld. After you've dealt with them, he will ask for your help. He will tell you that he has been poisoned and will ask you to take him to his friends in the southwest part of the Docks District in Athkatla. Agree to help him and he will climb into your backpack. You have 10 days to get him to the Docks which means that you don't have to rush too much - particularly if you were on your way somewhere. The thugs drop a number of potions and a fair number of low-level scrolls. Note that you may also have this encounter when you travel on the world map.

Suna Seni and Eldarin

These are slavers out for revenge if you break up their operations. They're accompanied by three Slavers and a Slaver Wizard. Loot Suna Seni's remains for her unique short sword, Arbane's Sword of Agility +2. If you wander around at night (which is quite dangerous), you will witness a number of encounters between Vampires and Shadow Thieves.

Salia and Shadow Thieves

Salia is trying to persuade two Shadow Thieves to join her guild. When they notice you, she will leave and the two potential recruits will attack.

Sansuki and Del

A panicked Shadow Thief named Sansuki will ask for your help. Immediately afterwards a Vampire named Del and two unnamed Vampires will show up and speak to you. You can either allow them to kill Sansuki or fight them. You'll likely be at a disadvantage so get Negative Plane Protection on your front-line fighters ASAP.
