Asuka Kazama, whose name can be interpreted as "Flying Bird," hails from Osaka, Japan, and is 17 years old. She was taught Kazama-Style Ancient Fighting Arts (Kazama-Ryuu Koubujutsu) by her father from a young age. Her hometown reputation is that of "that meddlesome girl who's quick to fight" due to her innate drive to fight for justice whenever she encounters trouble. Her backstory involves entering The King of Iron Fist Tournament after learning that the man who defeated her father and hospitalized him was participating.

Asuka is Jin Kazama's cousin, not his sister, and her mother was not Jun Kazama. She is considered the Jun Kazama equivalent for this game, possessing all of Jun's moves with some additions. Asuka speaks with an Osaka dialect, which is described as sounding rougher and wilder than the Tokyo dialect.
