Learn how to upgrade your tank's stats like load, defense, and weapon power at the Rent-a-Tank place. Essential modding tips for Risk of Rain Returns!

Alright, so you've stumbled upon the Vending Machine area, and right behind it, you'll find a Rent-a-Tank spot. This is super important because it's your very first chance to start modding your tank! Think of it like tuning up your ride to make it way more effective.

Modding Your Tank: An Introduction

You can start by upgrading the Chonov's load capacity. Raising it to 15 tons will even change its name to Chonov-T! Increasing the load lets you equip heavier, and therefore more powerful, weapons. The guys in the garage will tell you all about it – heavier guns mean more damage. Keep in mind that increasing the load capacity is usually the most expensive mod, and the cost depends on the engine you're using. You can typically increase the load capacity twice on an engine, and each time it'll change the engine's name. Remember, there's a limit to how much you can upgrade anything – usually twice, sometimes only once. The more you upgrade, the more it costs and the heavier the part becomes.

Generally, better weapons and parts will cost more to mod. You can also boost your tank's accuracy, evasion, and defense on the C-Unit. For the guns themselves, you can increase their attack power, ammo capacity, and defense. For example, boosting the 55mm Gun's attack might only cost 135 gold, increasing its attack to 132. This also adds weight, so expect it to go up to 1.76 tons.

SE guns often come with very little ammo. Increasing their ammo cap is a really good idea, even though it's pricey. It could cost around 8000 gold to raise an SE gun's ammo from just 2 or 3 rounds up to 12. This is a significant boost that really pays off, especially when you start getting access to even better weapons later on. Don't underestimate the value of a good ammo supply!

Also, consider increasing the defense of your tank's chassis. Since the chassis itself doesn't change, any money you spend on its defense is a permanent upgrade that won't go to waste. It's a solid investment for your tank's survivability.
