v. Big Cannon

Learn the best strategies and preparations to defeat the formidable Big Cannon boss in Risk of Rain Returns. Includes tips on equipment, tank choice, and combat tactics.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Big Cannon: Drops 1 gold, 1000 Experience. Attacks with a gun. Has two turns to your one. Default guns do 15 damage. Can do 40 SP damage per tank.
• Weaknesses: Using Piercing Shells can disable its parts and attacks.

Phases:

1. The Big Cannon attacks relentlessly, often disabling tank parts or SP.
2. The fight can be prolonged due to limited ammo and the boss's high defense.

Strategy:

• Preparation: Ensure both characters are at least level 9. Equip Hunter in the Mosquito with the Chonov Engine and 55mm Main Gun, purchasing 8 Piercing Shells (these do not add weight and are only usable by this tank). Equip Mechanic with the Gatling Gun (best Autogun available). Ensure both tanks are fully protected with armor tiles and carry extra packs for repairs.
• Approach: Drive north-east from Negi, then west past explosions. Be mindful that explosions on the approach can deplete SP.
• Combat: Use a combination of Piercing Shells and the Main Cannon. Piercing Shells can cause parts to malfunction, reducing its attack effectiveness. If you run out of specialized ammo, rely on Autoguns.
• Alternative Strategy (Lower Levels): Use the Buggy with the Mechanic and the Boomerang Wrench. This can disable the enemy, potentially allowing for victory at lower levels. If using this method, keep the Gatling Gun on the Mosquito for Hunter.
• Post-Battle: After defeating a Big Cannon, return to Leorad for repairs and training. Use the Dog System to return to Negi and proceed west.
• Secret Items: After defeating the Big Cannons, use the Metal Detector on the grey island where they were stationed. Next to the northern and southern stones, you can find two 35mm Machine Guns.
