Referred to as the Great Devourer, Deviljho is a wyvern that appears from High Rank and onwards in monster hunter 3 ultimate. Due to its wandering nature, it can be found in every environment. Hunters fear it for its fierce nature and high mobility. When enraged, it can use its Dragon Breath to blast its foes.

Rage Effects: Attack 130%, Defence No Change, Speed 100%.

Key Attacks:

  • Leaping Bite: If a hunter is some distance away from the Deviljho then it may leap towards them, mouth scouring the ground aiming for a bite. Always be ready to run to the side if a Deviljho is at arms reach.
  • Stomp: If you’re standing under Deviljho then it may lift its foot up high, bringing it forcefully back down to earth.
  • Rock Throw: Another attack for far away hunters. Much like other Brute Wyverns, the Deviljho digs its head into the ground and uses it like a shovel to launch a rock towards the hunter.
  • Dragon Breath: When enraged the Deviljho may perform this attack. It’s indicated by a gathering of red in the monster’s mouth and is unleashed in a sweeping arc in front of it. It’s best to identify this attack and try to run ‘past’ or under the monster.

Recommended Strategy:

There’s no simple way of putting it, Deviljho is hard. Traps, Flash Bombs, Bomb Barrels, an ally with Sleep Shots. Have a good meal and bring plenty of buff drugs too. You can’t prepare too much before fighting the Deviljho, and neglecting to bring some toys will only make the fight that follows harder for you.

A great way to deal damage to the Deviljho is through the Barrel Alarm Clock technique. Bring a weapon or item that you can use to put jho into a slumber and then proceed to pile large bomb barrels around his face - he stays asleep for a long time making this easy to pull off - followed by a small barrel. The small barrel will detonate the larger ones, dealing a massive amount of damage to a Jho. This is a strong tactic against many monsters, but particularly a Deviljho.

In truth, Deviljho requires some smart hit and run tactics (unless you have a very strong Lance). His stomp ensures you can’t stay around his feet for too long while his bites make his face a particular danger spot. Added to that, he’s just blummin’ massive! Try staying near him, so you can react to a Dragon Breath, and focus on constantly moving around him.
