Learn how to advance your Life rank in Fantasy Life by completing Challenges and collecting Stars. Discover how Life Colleagues can help you and understand Challenge rules.

To progress in your Life, you must collect Stars by completing Challenges unique to your Life. Once you have enough Stars, you will rank up from Fledgling to Apprentice to Adept to Expert and finally to Master. You can also reach unprecedented heights, from Master to Hero and finally to Legend (until you get the DLC).

When you change to a new Life, you must collect a different set of Stars to rank up. Each Life has its own set of Stars, so they don’t carry over to other Lives.

Challenges are tasks or missions, such as defeating a certain number of a type of monster or collecting a certain number of an item. Challenges are usually obtained automatically when you rank up, but you can also receive additional Challenges from your Life colleagues.

You don’t need to complete every Challenge to rank up–only enough to get the required amount of Stars. However, to reach Legend rank (the highest rank, DLC not withstanding), you must complete every single Challenge.

It pays to speak to your colleagues from time to time. NPCs with a Life or a connection to a Life are indicated by a Life symbol next to their name. If you share the same Life as one of these NPCs, they are your Life Colleague, who may share wisdom or chat with you. Look out for a “?” speech bubble over their head, which means they have something new to say, whether it’s idle chatter, a freebie, a party invite, or a Challenge.

You can complete Challenges out of order; for example, you can complete a Master Challenge as a Fledgling. It also doesn’t matter what Life you’re in, unless the Challenge explicitly states it. So if a Challenge asks you to mine 100 ore deposits, you can do this in any Life, unless it says “as a Miner”.
