Gear up in Fallout! Learn how to take on the Old Town guards, manage your inventory, and prepare for the Brotherhood with this expert walkthrough.

Alright, so you've managed to snag some sweet Power Armor, or maybe you're rocking the Brotherhood gear. Either way, you're now in a prime position to tackle a bunch of quests that were out of reach before. First things first, we need to head over to Old Town.

There's a shack there with some guards. You'll want to take them all out. A shotgun or combat shotgun is your best bet here, because it's going to be a pretty decent fight. Make sure your companions, Ian and Tycho, are kitted out with good weapons too, as they'll be right there with you.

Pro-Tip: Before you even get to the fight, it's a smart move to offload some of your old gear. All those leather armors, metal armor, Desert Eagles and their ammo, and those 10mm pistols? Sell 'em! You can snag some serious upgrades. I managed to get a combat shotgun for myself and a sniper rifle for Tycho just by selling off the leather armors. And that SMG you got from Vault 15? Give it to Ian.

Now, to actually deal with the guards: find one of them and just start talking. As soon as the dialogue kicks off, you'll enter combat. If you're feeling bold and want to get up close and personal, the combat shotgun is brutal. Just remember that a burst shot uses 3 shells, but it's incredibly effective if you can land it when you're right on top of them. Use that 'Up Close & Personal' bonus whenever you can!

Once the guards are down, look for the guy wearing a green shirt. You'll need to use your lockpicks on his shack. After you've successfully picked the lock, go ahead and talk to him. Tell him you're an initiate, and he'll thank you and then leave. It's a really good idea to save your game right before you head to the Brotherhood after this. Oh, and one last thing – make sure you're re-supplied with plenty of ammunition and any chemicals you might need before you make that final push.
