Explore all Advance Wars modes: Design Room, Versus, Online, Campaign, War Room, and Hachi's Shop. Learn about map design limits and CO unlocks.

Design Room: This mode allows you to design your own maps with limits of 60 properties and a 30x20 screen size, without dialogue. You can create or save up to 50 design maps. An online option to share maps is available with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Design Maps Controls:

  • A - Place terrain or unit.
  • B - Select terrain or unit.
  • L - Open unit selection menu.
  • R - Open terrain selection menu.
  • Start - Display overhead map (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)).
  • Select - Display the menu.

Menu Options:

  • File: Load, Save, or Name the map.
  • Help: Displays a basic Help screen.
  • Intel: Shows total properties and units on the map. You cannot have over 60 properties or 50 units per army.
  • Fill: Fills the map with selected terrain (Random, Plains, Mountains, Sea, or Forest).
  • End: End map editing.

Versus: Battle the AI or up to 4 friends locally.

Online: Play 1v1 online matches if you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Map sizes are limited to no more than 300 squares (e.g., 20x15).

Campaign: Play through the storyline of Advance Wars 1 or Advance Wars 2. Classic Campaign difficulty offers the original experience, while Casual Campaign difficulty provides an easier one.

War Room Mode: Engage in special one-off challenges against the AI to hone your skills. Winning these challenges awards a score based on your performance.

Hachi's Shop: Earn coins by beating Campaign or War Room challenges. These coins can be used to unlock COs (Commanding Officers), maps for local or online play, music, and artwork. Hachi also provides game tips.

Gallery: View your ID tag, unlocked music, collectibles, and rewatch cinematic scenes (cutscenes) from the Campaign.

Main Gaming Menu Options:

  • Unit: View the status of all your units on the field.
  • Intel Terms: For Campaign Missions only, this displays the objectives you must accomplish to win.
  • Status: Shows your units, properties, incoming funds, and available funds.
  • CO: Displays information for both your CO and your opponent's COs.
  • Power: Activate your CO Power when available.
  • Save: Save your current game status.

Options:

  • Music: Toggle music ON/OFF. Default is ON.
  • Visual: Choose animation settings: A (always on), B (on only during battles), or C (no animation).
  • Yield: Surrender the game.
  • Exit Map: Exit the map without seeing end-game results. This quits the current battle and autosaves.
  • End: End your turn, allowing your opponent to move.

Unit Menu Options:

  • Capture: Allows infantry and mechs to capture enemy or neutral properties.
  • Fire: Allows most units (except transports) to attack enemies within range.
  • Load: Load units into a transport unit.
  • Drop: Drop units from a transport unit.
  • Supply: Replenish fuel, rations, and ammo for adjacent units.
  • Wait: The unit will wait until the next turn to perform actions.
  • Dive: Submerge a submarine to make it only attackable by cruisers and other submarines, even when detected. This costs more fuel.
  • Rise: Surface a dived submarine for fuel purposes.
