Learn how Drake's unique abilities and CO Powers like Squall and Typhoon can dominate naval maps in Advance Wars. Discover his strengths and weaknesses.
Drake's a bit of a niche Commander, honestly. You'll mostly want to bring him out for those massive maps where you're going to be building a lot of ships, or maps that are mostly water. He's not the best for land-based assaults, but if you're ready to build a fleet, he's got some neat tricks up his sleeve.
Drake's Stats:
- Air Units: Firepower 80%
- Naval Units: Defense 110%, +1 Movement Range
- All Other Units: Firepower 100%, Defense 100%
- Weather Effect: Rain doesn't slow his units down at all.
CO Powers:
- AW1 CO Power (Squall, 4 bars): This used to be called Tsunami. It kicks off a storm that hits all enemy units for 1 HP damage. Your units also get a small boost to their Firepower and Defense.
- AW2 CO Power (Squall, 4 bars): Similar to the AW1 version, this storm hits all enemy units for 1 HP and, importantly, cuts their fuel in half. Your units get a nice +10 Defense boost.
- AW2 Super CO Power (Typhoon, 7 bars): This is the big one. It's a storm that hits all enemy units for -2 HP and halves their fuel. Your units get that +10 Defense bonus again. Plus, it makes it rain for a whole day, which is great for Drake!
Drake Strategy:
Drake really shines on naval maps. Since naval units are pretty pricey and not as flexible as land or air units, having a CO who boosts them is key. On maps where the landmasses are separated, you'll need to build ships to push forward, and Drake makes that easier. His CO Powers aren't the best for land combat, but in AW2, that fuel reduction can really cripple enemy air and naval units that are far from an APC. So, if you're looking to build a powerful navy and control the seas, Drake's your guy.
