Melee Combat: Geralt uses a Silver Sword for monsters and a Steel Sword for humanoids. Basic attacks include Fast/Heavy attacks, which can be enhanced through the Combat skill tree with abilities like Whirl and Rend.

Ranged Combat: A crossbow is available for ranged attacks, with time slowing slightly during aiming. Different bolts can alter effects. The Marksmanship skill tree offers enhancements.

Finisher Attacks: Triggered by a button prompt when an enemy is weakened, these perform stylish executions. Automatic finishers can be toggled on/off.

Avoiding Attacks: Geralt can Block (nullifies most melee, less effective against magic/poison), Stagger (timed block to deflect and stun melee enemies), Dodge (quick side/back step), and Roll (covers more distance). The Defence skill tree offers further abilities like Deflect Arrows.

Magical Signs: Consuming Stamina, these include:

• AARD: Force push to knock down or stagger enemies; can destroy weak walls.

AXII: Temporarily stuns enemies; used in dialogue or to calm animals.

IGNI: Fire wave attack, can cause burning and damage over time; used to light torches.

QUEN: Creates a protective barrier, draining Stamina.

YRDEN: Creates a trap that slows enemies and makes ethereal creatures corporeal.

Alchemy: Geralt can craft Bombs, Potions (buffs, increase Toxicity), Oils (weapon enhancements against specific enemies), Decoctions (special bonuses against specific enemies), and Alchemy Reagents. Recipes are found or bought, and crafted items replenish upon meditation if sufficient alcohol is available.
