How to Beat Combat Skills

Melee Combat
Geralt wields a Silver Sword for monsters and a Steel Sword for humanoids. Players can perform fast/light attacks (quicker, less damage) and heavy attacks (slower, more damage). Investing skill points in the Combat tree can unlock abilities like Whirl (AoE spin) and Rend (armor-piercing slash).

Ranged Combat
The crossbow offers ranged attacks, with time slowing slightly when aiming. Different bolts can be crafted for various effects. The Marksmanship skill tree can enhance aiming speed, critical hit damage, and ability disabling.

Finisher Attacks
When an enemy's health is low, a button prompt appears for a stylish execution. On lower difficulties, Geralt is invincible during these animations, which can be exploited to avoid damage. Automatic finishers can be toggled on/off.

Avoiding Attacks
Geralt can Block (nullifies most melee, less effective against magic/elemental damage), Stagger (timed block to stun enemies), Dodge (quick sidestep/backstep), and Roll (larger distance, useful against boss attacks). The Defense skill tree offers upgrades like Deflect Arrows.

Magical Signs
Geralt uses Signs that consume Stamina. The five Signs are: AARD (force push, knocks down enemies), AXII (stuns enemies, used in dialogue), IGNI (fire wave, chance to ignite enemies), QUEN (defensive barrier), and YRDEN (magical trap that slows enemies and makes ethereal foes tangible).

Alchemy, Potions, Oils, and Bombs
Witchers can craft alchemical items. Recipes are found or bought, and once crafted, items replenish upon meditation if sufficient alcohol is available. This category includes various Bombs with different effects.
